They aren't after wire, that might make more sense, but its a lot of hard work for the price of scrap copper. Stealing catalytic converters is much easier and pays much better. No this is some emotional or mental issue 😕.
I studied the Luddites years ago. They were trying to protect themselves, their jobs, their families. Doesn't seem to apply to today's "haters " ... personal transportation isn't under threat, and what powers the cars and trucks is irrelevant
This whole "Hater" phenomenon just baffles me. There has always been vandalism but this stuff seems new. Did this stuff even exist before the internet and smart phones?
I'm no chemist, but I'm afraid you are correct. Self discharge is a real thing with most batteries. There are chemistries that don't have that issue, but I don't know where you can buy batteries like that.
Plastic could be a miracle substance ... used for medical devices, construction materials that can last a century, etc. Instead we use it to bag garbage, cheap toys, and for one way packaging . BAH.
Both points 2 and 3 are likely to be long term issues really. People will handle blackouts as they do now ( by compliancy followed by panics) and maybe a fossil fuel generator. Trained mechanics and replacement proprietary parts may be an issue for a very long time. Adequate range and chargers...
Awesome. Even taking short rides occasionally, he can reach 100 rides before his 100th birthday. My sister is in her upper nineties and walked all around a 15 acres garden with us when we visited her a couple months ago. Much better than TV.

That is also true ... a matter of perspective. I believe in letting the authorities do their jobs, but still doubt their effectiveness in anything beyond their routine day to day situations. And I doubt a missing container of ebikes is routine. Odd that the owner has hasn't posted here if...
