Do you wear a mask when you ride?

Nope. I carry one just in case though.

Elektrek Ebike of the Year: HyperScorpion

Meh. Not my style. I am more of an e-mtb type biker. That said, any ebike that is going 33mph on throttle alone and encourages throttle over pedaling, I don't consider this an ebike at all. I saw one while waiting a stoplight (in a car) and for the first time, I saw an ebike moving without...

    Need opinions

It is IMHO. I did not want to spend over 2K, but after test riding a few eMTB's and Road ebikes at a LBS, I took the plunge and spent more than I wanted, but in return I got an ebike that fits me like a glove and rides the way I want to ride. I would feel a whole lot worse going to cheap route...

Future of E-MTB - discussion with product managers of top companies

We are seeing alot more emtb's around and of course no enforcement with regards to classes 1-3 on trails. Everyone on the internet talks tough, but a 1 on 1 physical confrontation with bodily injury has yet to occur in my experience. That said, I would focus on weight distribution and/or reduce...

What are your plans for winter exercise? Keep riding your ebike or an exercise bike?

If there is fresh power, I am on skis, not a bike :) Tahoe is the place to be, despite any covid restrictions that no ones listens to anyways.

Bikers going the wrong direction in bike lanes...

Guilty. I mean c'mon, how can you have a SM or Dirt Bike and not wheelie? We are all hooligans inside :) It is a trade off. eMtb's need to have knobbies, but we also need to commute to work or casual riding on pavement. Sucks, but it is what it is. And they are a bit noisy.

Bikers going the wrong direction in bike lanes...

Around where I live, we have bike lanes, but they are sporadic, non-uniform, and inconsistent, but there is a push to create more bike lanes, and it is happening, albeit very slowly. Until we get them in bigger numbers, you are forced to share the road with car traffic. With few exceptions...

    PAS Levels, torque vs speed?

Not observed on my Surface 604 Shred. It has a torque sensor and hub motor. At PAS L1, you don't get much torque or speed unless your really working, but by PAS L3, you really feel the lurch forward with a strong torque pull when you start to hammer the pedals, and keep it up, and you can hit...

    On Battery Care and Maintenance

Yes. I've done it a few times when work got in the way of riding. I have not experienced any battery degradation or performance hit as a result. But I think storage means weeks not days. And if you will store it for that long, then keep the charge around 70% is what I would recommend. For just...

Class 3 ebike throttle separate from peddling, no peddle assist.

With or without law enforcement present and taking a report? Do you really expect the offending party to sit there for 30 mins to an hour or more and do the right thing? We have a terrible problem with hit and runs on our streets and by the time the cops show up, it is way too late.

What are your plans for winter exercise? Keep riding your ebike or an exercise bike?

I hate stationary bikes, get bored so easily and not motivated. I gear up for the cold and get out for a ride almost every day. Luckily in California, we have that luxury. Most states do not.

Class 3 ebike throttle separate from peddling, no peddle assist.

And just who is going to enforce that? I will tell you I see violations of this almost every day, and what it comes down to is that no one cares about the law, if no one cares about enforcing it.

I Am Seeing A Lot Of New Ebikes With No Front Suspension

Around these parts, that is accurate. There aren't many fat out of shape analog riders, they are in pretty decent shape and unlikely to pass them unless you are at the upper levels of PAS and/or using the throttle. I use PAS level 1 most of the time, and with PAS level 1, I can keep up with...

    Class 3 mtb

I am beginning to like Florida. I like their approach to ebikes.

    Class 3 mtb

Exactly. As I've said before, there is NO enforcement that I have ever seen, on trail or off. I agree with you, just ride sane and save the wild stuff on the dedicated bike trails where your with other like minded folks.

    Beware the "Gentle Assist" bike

Agree with both 2) and 3) Swapping bikes with a specialized road bike, you can see why these guys can go so fast. I mean after riding a emtb that weighs in at 55 lbs and then riding a 30 lbs non-ebike is a huge difference. After the guy gets his road bike back, he understands just how heavy...

    Class 3 police?

These are extreme examples as you point out. I have just never seen or heard of such an instance. Bikes tend to avoid pedestrians, but if you cannot, you slow down, like way down. I get it, unlock or otherwise derestrict your ebike does come with a liability, but these examples are on the...

    Class 3 mtb

I knew class 3 meant a 28mph limit with PAS only; in some cases the bike may be shipped as class 2, but can be unlocked to a class 3 by the user who then accepts all responsibility. However, I did not know that your bike can never be classified as class 3 if it has a throttle. So that is new to...

    Class 3 police?

If your involved in a collision, just as with a motorcycle, it is you who will suffer the most severe injuries and a totaled bike. Whatever the liability laws are, it is not the other person that will bear the brunt of it. What scenario with a car v ebike collision could possibly result in a...

Class 3 ebike throttle separate from peddling, no peddle assist.

He wants an ebike, but doesn't want to pedal? There are plenty of ebikes with throttle, peddling is optional; no one said you have to self-propel under your own power or with PAS.
