    best security ideas for ebike

that would be a really dumb design to draw a lot of power just waiting for a connection. i have never had this problem with my bike that unlocks via phone. i don't lock it all the time, obviously, but i always have my phone on me and have never returned after a few weeks to find the battery...

    best security ideas for ebike

not sure why a mechanical lockout - properly engineered - is dangerous. i've hidden airtags inside the frame of all my bikes, and my road bike power meter cranks have find my integrated into them. i use a good u-lock when locking in public (not one of the new gigantic grinder proof ones...) and...

    Back to the bike shop

i love my speedplay pedals. have them on both the regular and e road bikes. i can't say the 54g weight savings between the nano and zero was really worth the money, but incremental gains in spinning things make a noticeable difference in aggregate :)

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

i‘m liking the current s-works evade 3 quite a bit. The align is also a very nice entry level helmet for occasional riders and the loma for slightly more enthusiastic ones. many choices and have never gone wrong with a specialized helmet.

15 MPH E-bike and Scooter speed limit announced for NY City by Mayor Adams

the census bureau measures this fairly often. although cities do local counts, those can’t tell to what % of commuters use what mode because you don’t really know how representative the various points checked are. it’s actually up to 1.7% in NYC.

15 MPH E-bike and Scooter speed limit announced for NY City by Mayor Adams

i doubt a lot of bike commuters commute 20 miles. and unfortunately only about one percent of people commute by bike on NYC, so the impact on traffic is going to be negligible.

15 MPH E-bike and Scooter speed limit announced for NY City by Mayor Adams

it’s a bit of a lose-lose - the right wants “states rights” and local control and believe the federal government shouldn’t have any power at all, really. the left is generally overprotective and favors restricting things that might have a chance of being dangerous. the result is a hodgepodge of...

Whom pays for your charge ?

i discovered recently that the outlets in our garage (separate ground floor garage of a 6 unit / 4 story condo building) are on the house meter. i feel slightly bad about charging the bikes and scooter, but as noted it really doesn't add up to much energy. perhaps .5kwh a day between the three...

WTF! Why do people cheat on fitness apps?

strava is surprisingly big, 150M+ users globally and probably 20-30M in the united states (they won't say.) and of course, those users tend towards being 25-50 year old men with disposable income, so it makes sense that there are so many add-on products/plugins/extensions/etc to monetize the...

The Future of eBikes: How Fast is Too Fast?

there must not be many other riders where you are, if i waved at everyone i’d never have two hands on the bars! i only acknowledge other riders when we’re in pretty remote areas.

The Future of eBikes: How Fast is Too Fast?

absolutely - often the people who make it a point to hate something are the ONLY ones making a statement … but it’s not the statement they think they’re making. you see this behavior in a lot of spheres, people being anti-nice things or anti-expertise or anti-popular things. i mean… i’d never...

The Future of eBikes: How Fast is Too Fast?

sure, a statement that they don't want to be hot and chafed and stinky and uncomfortable while exercising. i never see people who aren't exercising on a bike wearing spandex or lycra or other technical fabrics. when i ride for sport, i wear the appropriate clothes, and when i ride to work or...

The Future of eBikes: How Fast is Too Fast?

in whose opinion? yours? what is good for society is a complex question and i'd advise anyone to be deeply skeptical of anyone who claims to have the answer unequivocally, as your comment here suggests. some level of regulation is required in most things that are truly shared public resources...

From Concept to Prototype: Ultra-Light Ebike Kit for Road Bikes Now in Development!

how is the reaction force against the frame handled? there’s a reason lightweight carbon road eBikes have much heavier rear dropouts than their acoustic cousins - to house the non-rotating nut and transmit those forces into steel pieces embedded into heavier carbon members. i would guess the...
