    Brake Pad Wear

167 miles is very low, even for very hilly area. I live in what I consider to be a very hilly area where my typical ride involves over 2,000' feet of climbing. 6,000' is my local daily record. Even at that, my first set of resin pads lasted 500 miles; the rear were still OK. You can use the...

    Specialized Turbo Vado size question

I ride a 2020 Vado 5 medium and am 5'9" with a 30" inseam. I like the fit for reach, though it is a tad high for me on the top tube, snug but no pain. I find it very comfortable for my rides (47 miles max so far with hills). YRMV. At 6' with a 32" inseam you may be a bit tall for this bike...

    Suggestions for 300lb. rider

I agree that a folding bike designed for this load is a tough requirement. You might consider a cargo style ebike. https://www.radpowerbikes.com/products/radwagon-electric-cargo-bike?variant=32100542316640 The RadWagon is rated for a 375lb load. It is a bit over your budget at $1,699, but is...

Reminds me of an old story. Two hikers were being followed by a bear. One stopped and pulled a pair of running shoes out of his pack. His hiking buddy sees this and says, "Why running shoes? You can't out run a bear!" And his buddy says, "Bear? I don't need to outrun the bear. I just...

Are tube tops for bike racks safe?

We switched to a tray style hitch rack for the ebikes. They were just too heavy for my wife and I to even consider lifting onto our old top tube style rack. We do remove the batteries first, but still too much for us. In looking at new racks the load capacity was something that became a...

Like the (metal?) Grates on that wooden bridge! The wood gets very slippery after a couple of good rain storms. Had my bike slip out from under me on a wooden platform one time. No damage, but it sure surpirsed me!

We have an increasing number of coyotes hunting up and down the nearby creek. They aren't hunting turkeys necessairly. We've lost a couple of cats to them. Very weird to hear them howling down at the creek when they're chasing dinner. Was riding into town a few months ago. A lone coyote...

Which chain is on the Vado 5.0?

Others have reported drive train issues when they get over 2,000 miles on their chains. Out of habit, I change my chains each Spring. With a couple of bikes this keeps me well under 2,000 miles per bike. YRMV.
