    Knister BBQ Grill

No, the hot ashes and food waste gets dumped onto a pristine beach, or next to the trash can in the parking lot. Happens much too often.

    Interesting YT video about ebikes

This guy has cycle toured for about 20 years, and has never owned a car. He recently bought an ebike. I like his choice. He has some good points about the advantages of an ebike, and talks about the "cheating" myth. Myself, between by ebikes and etrike, I have ridden about 1500 miles in the...

    Pre-/Post-Ride routine?

I'm not overly thirsty/hungry afterwards. Although I take more than enough water, I try not to drink as much as I want. Finding a public toilet isn't easy. When I ride around town, I plan my rides to hit the few parks that have a porta-john. This isn't much of a problem when I go hiking. There...

    Pre-/Post-Ride routine?

Other than taking water and snacks, I don't do anything special beforehand. I use the lowest assist most of the time, and bump it up on hills. Lately, I've been doing 30-40 mile rides most days, so when I get home, I am thirsty and hungry. After a meal, I may take a short nap. I wish I could...

    Alarm that sends SMS text

I use two of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Y8BW8TF/ It's a rear light, horn, motion sensor and alarm. I set it to fast blink when riding. The horn/alarm is very loud. When armed, it will blast once if the bike is jostled. If they persist, the alarm sounds. You'd hear it from inside a store.

My ebike journey and the holy grail (for me)

Yes, that's why I got the 20 inch rear wheel, instead of the 26 inch, as well as the QR front axles. That way, it folds up fairly small, to go into a vehicle. Also, having all three tires the same size means you only have to carry one size inner tube. If you can put the trike into the rear hatch...

My ebike journey and the holy grail (for me)

You don't really need the rear parking brake. It is a convenience for when you stop, so the trike doesn't roll. It is operated by a lever on the left side of the frame, near the front edge of the seat. The two front drum brakes do a good job of stopping, but on very steep hills, using the...

My ebike journey and the holy grail (for me)

One other thing that is an advantage. When you have strong winds, it makes much more difference than you would think on a recumbent trike. I've had days on the bike with headwinds that made me downshift to keep going. On the trike, I hardly notice the difference.

My ebike journey and the holy grail (for me)

The ICE trikes (and some others) fold in half. Look on YT for a video. I got the 20 inch rear wheel, which makes it a bit smaller when folded. I also got the quick-release front axles. The seat comes off easily with three QR clamps. To fit in a hatchback, SUV or small truck, you can just remove...

    Thoughts Of An Experienced E-Biker

The wattage thing is like upsizing the biggie fries at McD. My first ebike had a 1000W motor. I never thought I needed that much wattage while riding, and it just added weight. Maybe if you live in SF. My Priority Current has a 500W motor. It handles everything well. Both my Gocycle and my ICE...

I need to be tracked and also the ability to get help virtually anywhere when I start riding again, best ideas?

Interesting that you had trouble cancelling with Garmin. I had no trouble at all, cancelling via the website.

My ebike journey and the holy grail (for me)

They make an HD model for larger riders. They also make an offroad trike. Interestingly, they made a custom offroad trike several years ago, for a woman who road it solo to the South Pole. Now that's some off-road riding. I don't find it any more difficult to ride in traffic than a bike. It...

My ebike journey and the holy grail (for me)

I got the full front/rear suspension option, so I don't know how it handles w/o suspension. I've gone over some rather large bumps, and the suspension works great. No need to lift your butt. The optional padded seat also helps. It handles very well at low and high speed. One of the reasons I...

My ebike journey and the holy grail (for me)

There are less expensive recumbent trikes. Even the model I bought would have been half the price, if I hadn't gotten the motor, extra battery, Rohloff hub, and all the comfort options. But I figured, why compromise and be unhappy with it? I'll pedal this for many years. I'm going to drive to...

    Bollard Posts from Hell

Oh, and twice now I have been passed by motorbikes on bike paths. The trailheads have signs that say "No motorized vehicles", but there are always those who think that rules and laws don't apply to them.

    Bollard Posts from Hell

The one I dislike is the gates that make you do a sharp S-curve to enter the trail. It can't be to keep horses out, as they can come in another way, and I always see horse droppings on this trail. It was enough of a pain on a bike. Now that I have a trike, it's even more so. Also, we have one...

I need to be tracked and also the ability to get help virtually anywhere when I start riding again, best ideas?

For areas with no cell coverage, I'll second the Garmin Inreach (I had the mini). The drawback is the monthy fee. I wasn't using mine enough, so I sold it. Another future option will be when T-Mobile and Starlink get their joint cellular-in-space working. It will allow a normal T-Mobile phone...

Good read, found this in another e-bike discussion..

The article sums up the joy we all had as children when riding a bike, and the joy we now get from our ebikes. I plan on riding until I'm 90 or 100 :) My blood pressure wasn't overly high, but it had been steadily climbing into 130/90 territory. At my last physical, it was 116/78, which is what...

My ebike journey and the holy grail (for me)

I started about three years ago with a decent Chinese ebike, just to see if I would like it. I hadn't ridden in over 40 years. Although I liked riding it, I learned a few things, and discovered a few drawbacks (which was the purpose of buying a $1200 ebike, instead of something more expensive)...

    Good, inexpensive action cam

Everyone loves action cams, but I have some different uses that I thought I'd share. After some research, I bought an XTU Max action cam. It seems to be as good as the GoPro Hero 7 that I used to have, plus adding a few additional features. Although it works great as an action cam, I am using...
