Bafang Motors - the best and the worst

What you're probably looking for is what were the 'stinkers'. A model that for whatever reason was a lemon. And honestly, I haven't heard of any in the Bafang line. The hub motors will overheat, if you overload them. http://bruceteakle.blogspot.com/p/burning-out-bafang-hub-motors.html I...

    Mongoose Envoy

The 32:32 ratio yields 26.01 gear-inches which still is higher than where you want to be for hill climbs under load. At least according to this author. He suggests 19 or lower. Granny Gear Inches: Ride Now, Save Your Knees For Later https://bikepacking.com/plan/granny-gear-inches/ In the...

    Mongoose Envoy

Nice bike. Fifty used to be my cut-off as well. Then I discovered those disposable hand and feet warmers. I buy them by the box and tuck a pair into my gloves and shoes for rides below 50° F. And if it's in the 30's, I'll pedal a mile or two unpowered to get warmed up before turning things on.

    SUGGESTIONS TO BIKE MANUFACTURERS:

Why no reviews for Hyper Eride?

It's a handsome bike and a nice price point to get started in eBiking. Many members here lost "beginners mind" long ago, so they're not going to have that entry-level perspective. You will be pleasantly surprised how much 250W will get-up-and-go. I converted my wife's Trek Pure with a 36V...

    Mongoose Envoy

I ride through winter and charge/store the battery in a warm dry place - typically in the garage but other times the kitchen on the tile floor. And it's amazing how capable these cargo bikes are be that from Yuba, Surly, Mongoose and others. Who knew? When first converting to electric, my...

    Mongoose Envoy

The Envoy is very good at being an electric and non-electric cruiser. You can ride powerless with much of the electric bits still attached. And at speed, it's easy to maintain velocity owing to the heavy rear wheel pushing along as a flywheel.

    1st time custom eBike

You can use BikeCalc.com to help sort out these "what if" decisions. Just enter in your existing configuration then use that to compare different chainring / rear cog gearing scenarios.

    all wheel drive Radwagon

That kit you have is by 'Bluenergy' resold by Junstar. Greenergia also offers Bluenergy kits through Amazon and Ebay. I have three of them - the rear hub cassette variety - mated to an Electra Townie, Trek Pure, and Mongoose Envoy. These Bafang SWX02 motors are pretty good performers and...

    Rattling Battery lock

@Browneye your wife has a Liv. What do you think?

    Rattling Battery lock

Do you have a pic of the locking mechanism? Is there a locking pin? I have a Hailong battery in a custom build and it used to rattle against where the locking pin passed through the mounting plate. Adding a bit of gorilla tape over the hole put enough tension on the pin to eliminate the rattle.

Questions about an ebuild for my wife

I converted my wife's Trek Pure with 250w hub and a small bottle battery. Top speed is 23 mph and good for 15 miles between charges. https://electricbikereview.com/forums/threads/250w-bafang-trek-pure-conversion-with-kit-from-bluenergy.29362/

Why is it rare for an e-bike to have more than one chain-ring?

I think it's more meaningful to express that spread in gear inches as that captures the chainring as well. https://www.bikecalc.com/gear_inches When I converted my Mongoose Envoy to a hub-driven electric, my intention was to replace the three ring crank with a single. After all, my electric...

    Mongoose Envoy

For those looking to do a custom build, the Mongoose Envoy is an excellent choice. In November 2019, I converted my Envoy to an eBike with a 500W Bafang hub kit from Bluenergy. I’m now at 1200 miles. You’ll find other Envoys converted with mid-drives, but I chose a hub to maintain the...

Specialized ROLL Hub Conversion - Q&A

Great to see the Roll… Rock'n again! Between three bikes we have over 3500 miles on Greenergy/Bluenergy kits, and so far, no electronic or motor failure. That said, the wheel from the original Bluenergy kit gave out after 2500 miles (excessive spoke and nipple breakage). Over the weekend I...

    SRAM drivetrain choices?

I have an SRAM X7 derailleur on my Electra Townie. I looked at the EX1 as an upgrade to my Mongoose Envoy, but the EX1 is not cheap. Instead I took a gamble on a 9-speed Microsoft Advent derailleur/shifter combo paired with a Shimano 11-34t cassette. The derailleur is rated up to a 42t rear...

Convert front MTB wheel to Disk Brake?

For the rear wheel, I installed a A2Z adapter on my Electra Townie. See the picture in this post. https://electricbikereview.com/forums/threads/electra-townie-conversion-with-kit-from-bluenergy.26457/#post-177615 It worked pretty good, but was a science project reinstalling when removing the...

When was the last time you rode an acoustic bike?

I pull the battery and ride our local greenway acoustic a few times a week for exercise. As a cargo bike, the Mongoose Envoy has generous gearing and is very easy to pedal despite its weight.
