My thoughts after 150 miles on my Allant 9.9 (spoiler alert - Awesome Bike)

Have not weighed the bike. No reason to doubt them, as easy to verify and the lighter it is, the more they can brag about the weight. Like the SuperCommuter, riding the Allant feels solid, comfortable, reassuring. We rode to from St. Petersburg to Tampa and back the other day. All sorts of...

My thoughts after 150 miles on my Allant 9.9 (spoiler alert - Awesome Bike)

Hi GuruUno, Yeah, the shifter is too stiff. The no brainer response from Shimano “that‘s the way it is” is kind of inadequate. While it is true that Trek made the choice in shifter, it is one of the highest quality shifters that Shimano makes and well suited for the bike’s intended use...

My thoughts after 150 miles on my Allant 9.9 (spoiler alert - Awesome Bike)

My Views on my New Allant 9.9 S, moving from SuperCommuter 8+ OK, first a few disclaimers... I am not an avid cyclist, and ride 1,500 to 2,000 miles per year. The bikes are used on 20 to 70 mile rides, and I have only done one 5 day bike tour trip with them. So view all these comments as...

    Bosch SmartphoneHub

Here you go. When you are running the COBI app on the bike, there is a little arrow in the lower left corner When you press that, you get the next screen that allows you to mute the guidance, and there is a little symbol for a battery. That toggles the charging of the phone on and off.

    Bosch SmartphoneHub

No, it is in the app. I will make a screen shot for you when I ride the bike in the next day or two. No worries. I think you can only see it when you are running the bike.

Hi SeaLevel - have an Allant as well. To get the phone to charge you have to turn on the charging in the COBI app. There is a screen where you can toggle the charging on and off.

Help me choose a high quality bike with range, comfort, speed, newer motor, and versatility

FWIW, I struggled with the same thing. I totally agree with Alaskan that the pain of paying for a good bike fades where poor quality is with you forever. I had a Trek SuperCommuter 8+ (my wife as well) and really loved it. It was stolen, and I replaced it with an Allant 9.9. Since I have a...

    E-bike jacking?

Thanks! We do the same at hotels. I like the idea of the motion sensor. Will look into that!

    E-bike jacking?

After having the SuperCommuter stolen off the car rack, we are also considering some GPS type options, although we have not done anything yet. Also thought about putting a label on the bike that says something along the lines of “This bike is fitted with a hidden GPS tracker that cannot be...

    Thoughts?

    Yeah, it sucks.

    Thoughts?

Agree with Steve, thieves know what they are looking at, and can spot a good bike. Our Trek SuperCommuters were locked on our car rack, in broad daylight, and a thief came along with bolt cutters and clipped the cable. Off went my bike, there must of been one thief, because they did not take...

Looking for a fast ebike primarily for commuting and possibly some trail riding

Hi Indianjo, you obviously have a different situation, and love to build/tune your bike. That is great. My Trek dealer is 4 miles away, has three stores, experienced bike mechanics (many are >40 years old and have been there for a long time, so they must pay for them), has an excellent...

Looking for a fast ebike primarily for commuting and possibly some trail riding

Well, I am part of the herd. I am an engineer by training, have taken everything apart and fixed it for my whole life and have excellent mechanical skills. I have built computers, have a full wood shop, and am not the least bit intimidated by building a bike and servicing it myself. One of...

    Abus keyed-alike options

Funny you should ask that. Got a new bike, and thinking about it myself - wrote to them the other day! They were very quick to respond with the following: Good Afternoon, Thank you for reaching out to us. Since your bike comes with an ABUS Plus key and Key Code, you can order any other Plus...

    New Vado 5

Well, there is a very good chance that I might like my Allant better than my SC 8+! :) It seems easier to pedal under no power, has a nicely integrated battery, stronger and quieter motor. We shall see. If I get used to the spring on the shifter or change it, I think it will be better than...

    New Vado 5

Definitely smoother, quieter and ”torquier” :) Seems to have a lot less drag when pedaling without the motor. Since it is winter here in NJ I have not been able to ride much. Next couple of weeks we are driving to FL. More later... By the way, we have a VRBO rented on Grove St in St Pete...

    New Vado 5

Hi, I am one of the people that just bought the Allant 9.9 and have concerns with the shifter. I am pretty convinced that it is just a much tighter spring than the previous version of Shimano shifters on the Trek SC 8. My wife’ SC 8 is sitting next to my new bike so I can compare. LBS was...

My 1st Day with the new Allant+ 9.9S

Hi GuruUno, Understand your frustration. Especially when you owned a SC like me. I also scanned the web for info on the Shimano shifter. There are comments on it being tighter and crisper, which some people like and some do not (in the MTB forums). I am going to ride mine for a month and...

My 1st Day with the new Allant+ 9.9S

Hi Alaskan, Totally agree! Need to give time for the LBS to make it right. So far, they have been great, which is why I bought it there and not by mail order ;-). Posted yesterday that they had adjusted and that it was now time for me to get several hundred miles on the bike. Will do that...
