    Searching for the perfect ebike

The perfect bike will be the one you buy. Whatever it is. The joy will come with the ride. Don’t delay! Have fun!

“Click” felt at the pedal when starting from zero

Mine has just started clunking also @ ~975 miles. When I turn the motor off there is a slight noise, but minimal. No other noticeable feel or power interruptions. My guess is my dealer would be hard pressed to isolate and identify the cause. I plan to keep riding through the annoying noise for now.

Trek Verve+ 3 or 4s vs Cannondale Neo vs Gazelle Ultimate 380

I agree per the Kiox. I put it on my 8s. However I am staying with the Purion on my Allant 7s and Verves as I still like its convenience.

    Vacation planning with E-Bikes

If you want to take advantage of additional planning services there are ebike vacation planning companies that offer packages from fully supported to self-guided. My wife and I have done both including packages where they supply the bike to ones where you bring your own bike. There are...

How do y'all handle flats on your rides?

I run tubless — and all tires purchased at my LBS. Cost for one recently replaced PanaRacer GravelKing tire mounted with sealant = $175. Worth it to me. FYI, zero flats on the trail in >5K tubless miles following 4 very unfortunate flats in 3K on tube tires with Slime.

    Winter Sucks

Yes, Winter sucks. Even in Arizona. We have perfect mid-70s clear skies until Feb 1. Lots of biking and pickleball. Then we have forecast 8 days of cold (55F) and rain for 8 days. What’s up with that?

    Cannabis, how is it legalized?

In previous posts I have noted my 50+ years of cannabis consumption. And per that, my Docs are fully aware of my use, which has also been confirmed via numerous pre-surgical blood tests. My surgery #19 was done about 5 weeks ago. (My 20 count punch-card gives me a free hemorrhoid surgery😜.) An...

    Electric Car thread

You have good points. My annual commute from Wisconsin to our winter home in Arizona is not feasible with an EV — especially considering how much stuff we haul back and forth. We would need to add a day or two to our 1,800mi drive which also means more hotels, food, etc. Those concerns were...

    2020 Allant + 8S Battery Issues

700 miles on my 8s. I did take it back to the Trek store after I bought it because the battery key locking mechanism was loose. Good since then. Odd that this seems to be a recurring problem on the 8s. I have 3 other Treks with the RI Battery and have had no similar problems. Can we assume...

Trek Verve+ 3 or 4s vs Cannondale Neo vs Gazelle Ultimate 380

My wife and I have only owned Trek ebikes but have rented others. Several, like your other options are comparable. She has a Verve+2 and a 4s. I had a Verve+3 and now ride an Allant 7s and an 8s. You should see a pattern of “s” models for the same reasons previously noted. Compare to driving a...

It is interesting how many e bike batteries are NOT locked.

So far I have ridden with 3 bikes that lost their batteries. One Trek RIB popped out, one recumbent with an under carriage mount, and one with the battery horizontally plugged. All resulted in cracked cases. I recommended fire awareness and LBS checks.

It is interesting how many e bike batteries are NOT locked.

After having a biker’s battery drop out of her bike while on a group ride, us bike group leaders are now carrying plastic wire ties to strap losose batteries in place. The tool bag is always adapting.

Specialized Como or Trek Verve+ for most upright ride.

While you are not truly comparing apples and oranges between a Verve 4s and your other choices, I recommend the 4s. I don’t have personal experience with the Como but recognize Specialized and Trek as very comparable. I had a Verve 3 and sold it because it was too upright for me. I now ride an...

    Will you choose it?

Agree with above — try it — if fat is your thing go for it. i ride on-road and paved trails with many fats. They may look cool but are generally not the best choice for that type of ride. Snow? Yes. Go for it.

    Winter Sucks

The definition of Climate Change: Going South for the Winter. 65 and sunny again today. Mid 70s for the rest of the week. Resort living in Arizona.

It is interesting how many e bike batteries are NOT locked.

Durning our group ride last Saturday a lady’s battery fell out of her bike. Definitely not locked. FYI, we advised her not to put her bike‘s battery in her garage or house until 100% confident it was not damaged.

Tubed vs Tubeless - what are you doing on your R&M?

For what it may be worth, I switched from Schwalbe G-Ones w/tubes w/Slime to Panaracer GravelKings tubeless and Orange sealant. 4 flats with the G-Ones w/in 3k miles. 0 flats in 7k miles on Gravelkings — but I have replaced the rear tire 2x — I like to slide my rear tire to impress my wife. (She...

Range estimate Trek 8s when first powered on

Very interesting. I have just over 450 miles on my new 8s and have been surprised by the seemingly less capacity as my 7s with its upgraded and now 2-yr old 625w battery. I have been hoping I am only in “break-in” mode and my 8s will soon get smarter about its battery management. Looking...
