Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

@Cycologist - If you keep the low gear derailleur stop screw adjusted properly to prevent the chain from shifting past the largest cassette cog you will not need what some refer to as a “dork disc”. If you want to be safe and prevent problems from the chain getting jammed between the cassette...

Good eye @Stefan Mikes! I’m also not worthy of the Epic, but I picked up a used 2025 Chisel base model and customized it with spare parts in the garage bin. It’s a fun bike, just a bit heavier than the carbon Epic, and a great training aid - the lack of pedal assist prevents laziness 😉.

    SL 2 Step-Thru

Have you thought about just adding a dropper seatpost? I installed a PNW 90mm dropper on my v1 SL, and it made mounting/dismounting and putting a foot down when stopped much easier. Not to mention more fun downhill and cornering with the seat lower 😉

Does anyone suffer from battery range anxiety like people do with electric vehicles?

Yes, just a singe RE each. And I adjust assist levels so that the bike batteries and my battery both run out at about the same time 😂 Let me know if you decide to go and I can suggest some fun shorter rides and some nice hikes in the area to fill out the trip.

Does anyone suffer from battery range anxiety like people do with electric vehicles?

@Jeremy McCreary - The climbs on the Badwater Half Century are all short (<200>ft) and gradual (<6%). Basically rolling terrain. My suggestion would be to turn around at Badwater rather than continuing a few more miles along the valley floor. Then you can take the Artist’s Palette side loop on...

Does anyone suffer from battery range anxiety like people do with electric vehicles?

Hi Stefan and Jeremy, Death Valley Natl Park is a great place to ride with wonderful views and little vehicle traffic. I looked up this year’s Century ride: https://planetultra.com/death-valley-century/ The section to Badwater offers good vistas of the lower valley and surrounding mountains and...

Changing from Tubeless to Tube? Turbo Tero 6.0 X

Be aware that if you reduce the tire size too much you will lose cushioning and you will also quicken the steering and change the handling of what is a heavy bike. If you do switch to a smoother road oriented tire you might want to keep it in the 2.0-2.2” wide range. I have a Tero X6 and run a...

    Tero X 5.0 tyres/Tires

I have a Tero X6 and run a 29x2.35 Fast Trak Grid T7 in front and a 27.5x2.35 Rekon Race EXO TR in back. Happy so far. They roll well on pavement and should be a little more efficient than Ground Controls. Offroad they handle and grip well enough in dry conditions though likely not as well as...

Trying to make sense of Vado and Tero geometry

Hmmm, I’ve enjoyed versions of all three of these - Vado, Vado SL (1), and currently a Tero X 6. The geo differences aren’t that great, and they can be largely compensated for with stem length and rise or drop, with handlebar shape, width and roll, and with seat position adjustment. I imagine...

Specialized Turbo Vado/Como/Tero/Tero X User Club

“. . . We need to assume the cassette cannot be changed, and hopefully it is a mega-range one. . .” Garbaruk sells an 11-speed 11-50 cog cassette for the HD freehub. (We used their 11-48 cassettes back in the day; light weight, smooth shifting.) And balancing at 4mph while climbing shouldn’t be...

Specialized Turbo Vado/Como/Tero/Tero X User Club

@ronaan - I’m 181cm tall and find the Large X 6.0 perfect with a 50mm stem (instead of the stock 75mm stem). The XL has a 1.9cm longer reach that may suit you at 183cm better. Be aware that the headtube length on the XL is also 1.5cm taller than the Large and may put the stock bars too high. Re...

I posted this on EMTB yesterday but thought folks here also might find it of interest: “Hi, I’m levity, and I’m a bike-aholic. I have no intentions of recovering.” Over the years I’ve owned several e-bikes (Levo, Levo SL, Vado, Vado SL, Creo SL, Fuel EX-e) and countless Amish pedal bikes. I...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

I used a dropper post with an under the seat control lever on my Vado. It was inexpensive, simple to install, and it worked great. It’s not something you want to be constantly adjusting, but for getting on and off the bike or just getting lower for fast, curvy descents it was easy to operate and...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

@Jencuya - I recommend using the stock Specialized seat-post (or any long, straight 27.2 post) to measure how far a post can be inserted into the frame before it hits the curved seat tube area or bottle-cage nuts and stops. Then you can just look up different dropper post model dimensions to...
