    Freewheel Problems

The Bike shop knew about the freewheel and knew it needed a 9-speed chain. That was part of our discussion. It's a SunRace Freewheel. Actually, both the skipping "original" one and the new replacement from today. They both are 9-Speed SunRace Freewheels but they don't look identical. They look...

    Freewheel Problems

The Bike shop did the work as I waited and watched. But they did all the adjustment work with the derailleur, hanger and chain etc. I did the original Freewheel install and the work today with the new Freewheel. Freewheels just screw on and off. There's no trick to it. The Kit will work with...

    Freewheel Problems

My Dec 2020 build of a Dillenger Off-Road rear hub drive kit went well. The only hiccup was that my bike couldn't run in 9th (highest, smallest) gear without constant skipping under pedal load. All 8 other gears were zero problem. So, I've ridden mostly in the 8th gear. The Dillenger rear drive...

loading/unload ebike from platform bike rack

The Kuat Transfer v2 has an Access Ramp available as an option for $98. https://shop.kuat.com/Access-Bike-Ramp-for-NV-2.0-Family The bigger problem may be getting your hands on one of the racks. The website says they are sold out of most of their racks

Bafang 500W Mid Drive Kit Availability

Dillenger has the BaFang kits as well. They are in Australia but they have a distribution warehouse in California that ships same day. It took 4 days from order to receipt of my rear hub kit. https://dillengerelectricbikes.com/collections/bafang-mid-drive-kits

Dillenger Off-Road Rear Hub Drive Kit

I installed the current "Off-Road" (28mph) rear hub drive kit in December 2020. Everything installed easily and everything with the kit works well. The cost at the time for the kit was $729. It has the 13ah 52/48v battery, and 52v charger. The kit comes with add-on brake controllers for using...

    Planned build

I had a Blix Vika+ 20" folding eBike as my first eBike. It is rear hub drive and I put 800 miles on it in the first year. But I realize that I mostly "shadow" pedaled and rode it at PAS 5 (top speed) and never used the gears. When I bought my kit I wanted to continue that method of riding so I...

    Planned build

Pay attention to that bottom bracket size. I don't know the year of your Trek, but the new ones have a VP BC73, 73mm, threaded cartridge BB. Make sure the kit you order accommadates a 73mm bottom bracket. Here's a link to my bike stand. I'm pretty sure I paid a lot less than this for my stand...

    Planned build

That looks like a great candidate. I just put a rear hub kit on my Specialized Crosstrail. It's a bit more of a hybrid bike then your Trek. But not by much. It was super easy. It took no more than 2-days and that's going carefully. I love my hub drive but many times think a BBS2 mid-drive...

    Time to Buy An E-Bike!

Screetch... [video frame freezes] No eBikes in stock. Anywhere. Waiting times of one year or longer. [Baby, throws spaghetti in face] PLOP!

The latest trend that’s helping reduce e-bike prices - Single-speed electric bikes

I built my eBike with a rear hub motor. The donor bike was a 9x2 Specialized Crosstrail. I've removed the front derailleur and thought about removing the rear. But I do shift some for steep hills. Not really often enough to make it all that necessary but you never know when you might head out to...

    Newbie looking for the truth

I try not to, but it's necessary sometimes. I am what anyone would call an "older rider" at 20 days away from my 71st bday. It helps some to have a suspension fork, but you still have to yank pretty hard to get the wheel up there. My bike has a 700C sized wheel - which is 29" and they say that...

    Newbie looking for the truth

About the brakes that were being discussed a few posts back. My "factory made" bike - it's a Blix Vika+ 20" foldable - has mechanical disc brakes. They work fine but require adjustment and pad replacements more frequently. On my DIY bike (I used a Dillenger Premium Off-Road Kit, Rear Hub drive)...

    Newbie looking for the truth

I think you’ll find most eBikes weigh about 55 lbs. And removing the battery reduces that by about 6 lbs. If you buy a eBike with a thumb throttle you just walk it up those few stairs with help from the throttle.

    Newbie looking for the truth

I think new eBike shoppers worry too much about the weight of the bike. Once you own an eBike you only wonder about it when you need to lift it onto a car rack or bike stand. I own a factory made eBike that I rode for a year and then I made a DIY eBike from a kit with a good "hybrid" bike in...

Dillenger / SP Crosstrail build thread

No the motor wasn’t bogging. It was a combination of what seemed the best speed for the bike path and the desire to preserve battery and get some exercise at the same time. PAS3 took me to 20 mph which was just a bit too fast for the path and required zero effor. I was riding between 20 and 30...

    Frey vs DIY

For many of us we already have a decent “donor” bike. So that’s not an additional cost. I had a Specialized hybrid city/dirt bike that cost $800 in 2018. It has a basic build quality of Alevio 2X9, Suntour fork, and Tektro hydraulic brakes and 29” wheels. So good enough. The rear hub drive kit...

    My Diy journey begins!

Any report back on your experience? Have you been able to complete the build? As I posted when you began this thread, I was thinking mid-drive at first and switched to rear hub drive instead. I love my bike after the build but have had some second thought about hub drive. It might have been the...

    My Diy journey begins!

Still in Tucson and loving the bike and bike path here. I have not done the mountain roads, but stayed on The Loop bike path around the city. 300-miles so far but we leave in 3-days.

Dillenger / SP Crosstrail build thread

I wanted to circle back and report that all is well with this DIY Dillenger Crosstrail. We're in Tucson and have been here nearly a month. There is a great paved bike trail here that goes all around the city something like 68 miles in total. It's called "The Loop." I have already put 300 miles...
