Oh is it wow, that is a very competitive price. This thread has made me realize there are still alot of great choices in the $2k-$4k range. One doesn’t need to spend $8k-$10k to have a great ebike in 2021. That’s good news considering supply chain current events.

Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

Very nice photos Stefan, those forests look quite nice to ride along. Is it the Masurian forest? I hear there is a very surprising remnant of WW2 hidden in that forest...

Bummer... they might have other models under $4K but I’m not sure. Forgot to mention but as @Dallant recommended the allant 7 checks all your boxes too and it has a great front suspension so it can handle NYC potholes no problem.

Have you looked into the Zen shakti? It can handle NYC potholes, class 3, not bulky, integrated battery, European build quality with American customer service, high quality deore drivetrain, only $2k, and the company is very active on EBR and responds to customers immediately. They changed the...

Trek Launches New High Performance Electric Cross Country Ebikes E-Caliber

B Very good to hear it’s already getting great user reviews. Since its a very low weight e-mtb and with substantial torque I was wondering if it would be *very* tossable and nimble and glad to hear confirmation that indeed it is since you’re the first owner of an e-caliber on EBR. Did it come...

So is it as strong as they say?

Of course it’s true and no one is surprised that’s why their not refuting it. Bafang is notorious for doing this. But people still buy their products because they like cheap things. The only way to get get the true stated numbers out of Bafang motors is to purchase an e-bike from a boutique...

Will look at CCX. Yes the CCX is a hub drive and about $2500.

    Average age of EBR riders

I guess I’m on the lower age spectrum according to the poll. I’m at the ripe old age of 39. I started out at a very young age riding bicycles anywhere and everywhere for exercise and recreation. 90s MTBs, road bikes, commuter bikes etc. Basically from 15 years old all the way to about 30. I did...

under $4k? Then you should also add the Juiced CCX to your list. It’s slightly more higher end than the radmission and ride1up. It’s a very fast e-bike that does well dealing with city potholes.

Specialized, Trek or Orbea, which one?

I’m sorry I didn’t mean to imply your comment wasn’t relevant. It always is ofcourse. I re-read the thread and yes you’re correct he specifically was looking at it because it was a drop bar conversion. My mistake.

Specialized, Trek or Orbea, which one?

I I believe @Firnatine said the Vado SL is already converted to drop bar and wants to know if he should pull the trigger on it or look to purchase a standard flat bar Vado SL.
  12. Akrotiri

Specialized, Trek or Orbea, which one?

Usually a bike designed for drop bars has specific geometry. A bike designed initially with flat bars then converted to drop bars would have less if any comfort issues. It’s a good question to ask and I’m not 100% sure if the converted Levo SL would have any quirky geometry regarding the reach...

Specialized, Trek or Orbea, which one?

Everyone on the forums that has a Vado SL 4 has been very happy with it. It’s a great e-bike from a great company and is light enough to be pedaled even without power. As for the drop bar conversion that’s up to you if the more aggressive riding position is comfortable for you then go for it...

    BBSO2 low top speed

Maybe the programming because their controllers are lower quality and far less sophisticated compared to Bosch, Brose and Shimano. It’s more likely the fact that Bafang tends to over rate their motors wattage by a hefty margin resulting in lower top advertised speeds. It’s definetly not the...

Ebike battery house fire in Australia

You realize there’s a lot more than just a kit right? Charging lithium batteries involves a lot more than just the cells, it also involves a lot more internals regulating the charge, etc. here’s an example of what one battery pack comes 48V 11.6Ah Lithium-ion Ebike Battery Pack Genuine...

Ebike battery house fire in Australia

That’s strange because their the most popular DIY batteries in the USA and Australia. The link you provided from bafang is their new branded type that will be available mostly in the E.U. that’s supposed to be more reliable than the batteries that explode like the one from the article in the...

Ebike battery house fire in Australia

The fact that the motor and controller are bafang makes it very likely the battery was bafang too.

Ebike battery house fire in Australia

How do you know it was Bafang battery? The motor and controller are definitely Bafang, I can see that for sure. The battery seems to be the “c” carrier rack flat wide orientation bafang usually makes.

Ebike battery house fire in Australia

Seems to be a bafang motor and battery. I’m willing to bet this is not user error. Not surprising at all since Bafang’s quality control is lacking across the board through out their range of motors and batteries. I take extra precautions with my bafang hub drive and always charge the battery...
