    I have stroke

Hi Peter, I don't have any experience of using this myself. It was just something I'd seen before when browsing online for bike parts.

A dual Brake lever may help. Something like the Hope Tech 3 Duo Lever. will be good quality, but pricy. https://www.tartybikes.co.uk//disc_brake_levers/hope_tech_3_duo_lever/c556p13802.html?cookie_all=1&cookie_refresh=1

    Are We Condemned to Strava?

Yep, that's it! A technique I've had to master! :D But the small kissing gates are a bugger to get through with a big bike. 😬

    Are We Condemned to Strava?

Yep, but not always. Thankfully people aren't that evil that they're purposely doing it! But you can be caught out. They're usually found wherever livestock graze. Any UK e-Biker will know about these things! :D

    Are We Condemned to Strava?

Stiles! Yep, those are annoying too! :D You'll find these in places in the UK but more often they look like the one below. It should be the law to have them marked out on maps! ;)

    Are We Condemned to Strava?

A photo of an UK e-bikers worst nightmare. :D Kissing Gates. Traditional cyclists create routes on Komoot and then carry bikes through these with ease. Along comes me on a heavy e-bike and I'm stuck. o_O These gates are often used in the British countryside and Komoot does not highlight them...

    Are We Condemned to Strava?

It's good when riding roads and cycle paths, where much of this data comes from official sources too. But it has flaws elsewhere - especially if you ride off-road (Singletrack/woodlands/gravel etc), where it's often using user-contributed data. (To OSM or Komoot). Especially in the UK. We have...

    Are We Condemned to Strava?

I'm a fan of Komoot (Paid subscriber) but it's worth remembering it's not a navigation app in the strictest sense, it's an app to find routes other people have created. If that happens to be military personnel using it then you'll be directed that way! It's always best to review and edit the...

2024 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Hi Stefan I have to say RideWithGPS is far from telling the full story, the average grade would have been around 13% but this doesn't account for the max grades or the ground conditions. I can tell you my backside was hanging over the back wheel for more than one of these descents. :D I would...

2024 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Incredible ride Rab! The photos look great, and 100 miles and with nearly 6000ft of elevation - and at 16mph average speed is some going! These are numbers I can only aspire too! :D

    Charger 3 stolen.

Sorry to hear that Ken. You can't take your eyes off your bike for a second these days... Not sure if you've looked into it before but bike insurance is worth investing in. I'm paying around £15 a month and it covers everything, 3 bikes (2 e-bikes), bike accessories - including Cycle...

2024 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Hi Jeremy, thanks! Yep, the downs are ups! I'm not sure who came up with the idea of naming it that way! :D We don't have any massive hills around this area but enough to poke the interest. I think the biggest hill I've found was 465ft elevation. I also have to admit this ride was on my Frey...

2024 - Our Rides in Words, Photos, Maps and Videos

Your eyes don't deceive you... blue sky! The first we've seen in a couple of weeks. :D Looking across Dunstable Downs. ☺️ I can't lie... The views are worth it once you get to the top of the hills. :) Steps of doom. Some of these steps are a foot deep, and riding down them is not for...

EBR made me do it! (new Vado SL 5.0 EQ)

Excellent idea! You won't be surprised to hear that I'll be copying this! :D Pulling power from two batteries instead of one helps with their longevity. Despite the weight penalty, I have constantly ridden my Frey dual-battery bike with both batteries. It's capable of pulling 30amps, and I was...

EBR made me do it! (new Vado SL 5.0 EQ)

This bike is fantastic! In bright yellow against the stunning California sunshine, it looks perfect.:) I can't help but agree with everything you've said about it! If I can resist the “carrot effect,” this bike is impressively efficient. With a Euro-spec motor (limited to 15.5mph), pushing it...

Tis better to have mirrors than not.

Handy to have mirrors... Sometimes when I check over my shoulder I have a bad habit of swerving ever so slightly in that direction, bringing me closer to the passing vehicles. On narrow British roads that's not ideal.

Visualizing and exploring the power-sensing PAS in Specialized mid-drives — an interactive graphical model

I completely agree with you! :) Pr is the main determinant, with cadence influencing power delivery across the entire range by modulation of Pr, rather than just in the "special cases" like starting or approaching cutoff.

Visualizing and exploring the power-sensing PAS in Specialized mid-drives — an interactive graphical model

Jeremy your work above is an extraordinary analysis of the Specialized system! Great work. :) I'm not even going to pretend my skills here match yours. Anyone who does this in their spare time is miles ahead of those who crunch numbers out of necessity! (Feel free to correct me at any time!😊)...

Are white reflectors required on wheels

You're right Jeremy! On that night ride, I added extra front and rear lights for more visibility but the batteries died! I thought they had plenty of life left but was wrong. If I didn't have built-in lights to fall back on I would have been in big trouble. :(

Are white reflectors required on wheels

This thread prompted me to check UK laws - and I'm riding illegally! No pedal reflectors on my bikes.
