Hello From California, but Not the Coast

Velkommen to the asylum. 😁 Some great trails in the Sierras. Just beware the pedal-only MTB'r psychos. LOL They HATE eMTB's. Our ebikes legally/technically aren't allowed anywhere in the forest, but we ride them anyway. Old and gray, they sure look silly telling me I can't ride my bike there...

Insufficient Privileges - Cannot Reply to For Sale forum threads

I don't think classifieds allow replies...perhaps I'm mistaken, but I seem to recall this is the case. The idea is that a reply can be sent as a DM or PM only, so threads are not built on a classified listing. That's what I know to be the case. :)

    Which Are The Toughest Tires?

The IKON is a faster version of the REKON. They're what I have on my OCCAM - ikon rear and Rekon front. They sure roll easier, but the pedal bike is still slow with me pedaling! LOL That CF lightweight cost as much as my TranceE! The Ebike is the greatest thing ever!

    Which Are The Toughest Tires?

I've shared this one before...a riding buddy that has ridden his dualsport thousands and thousands of miles, carries a spare tube in a container mounted to the lower downtubes on his bike. I was with him a few years ago, some 50 miles from civilization in the Death Valley area, when he got a...

    Which Are The Toughest Tires?

Any tube can have slime added to it. Personally I have always hated the stuff - if you ever puncture the tube it makes a giant mess. In fact, if you put it in your car tire, the shop won't touch it - it's new-tire time. Also in fact, this is my chief complaint about latex in tubeless setups -...

    Which Are The Toughest Tires?

Lots of 26 sizes, just no Exo+. They're still great tires. As mentioned, are more or less the most famous offroad tire in the world. Great all around performance. Gee, I sound like a maxxis ad, or fanboyz. 🤣 For really rough going, and/or greater flat protection than even tubeless, are the...

    Which Are The Toughest Tires?

I have a 27.5x2.8 DHF if anyone wants it. A new take-off. I would have to snap a pic of the sidewall designations. I think it's an exo, I've never installed it, but ran a DHR on back for a lot of miles, then got the exo+ in 2.6 - more better size, better tire. I run 2.6's on the trance, and...

    Which Are The Toughest Tires?

Yeah, a tubeless with latex sealant in it is supposed to be self-sealing. That's the whole big advantage, and a little weight savings to boot. I still carry a spare tube and a pump. You don't want to be 10 miles from staging with a slashed sidewall and all the latex sealant run out. Maxxis...

    Which Are The Toughest Tires?

My trail ride in AZ consisted of some really sharp rocky terrain - obvious scuffing on the sidewalls, even a scratch or two on the rims...but no flats - Maxxis Minions. Frankly, I'm pretty surprised I DIDN'T get a flat. Maxxis tires are made for that stuff. And their EXO+ protection is their...

    Chain lube

Those lubes for for sealed-roller chains, or o-ring chains, x-ring chains. Your bicycle chain has open rollers, and they wear, and they need some oil in them. I still clean with WD40 and a cotton rag, like we did with the MC chains, but then lube with Triflo, and wipe off any excess. There are...

    eMTB Options For 2024

That would be 'box-end' or 'open-end' wrenches. Or even 'combo' or combination wrenches that have one each on each end. Or, err, wenches. LOL Then there are socket wrenches, that isn't a wrench at all, unless you call the ratchet handle a 'wrench'. And there are allen wrenches, that aren't...

    eMTB Options For 2024

Starting in grammar school and then even more in high school, they kept forcing that metric crap on us telling us eventually everything would switch over and our inches feet yards miles pounds and ounces, were going to go away. Hmmm...well, that just never happened did it?? LOL It was really...

Schwalbe Smart Sam: Tyres That Are Silent On-Road And Quite Aggressive Off-Road

The peanut gallery... 🤣 Why Smart Sams? Wifey still mostly rides paved bike paths, and I had some smooth ebike tires for riding those paths and roads with her, on my second wheelset - easy swap out by just pulling the axles. But I thought I would try the Smart-Sam's just for fun. I have quite...

Schwalbe Smart Sam: Tyres That Are Silent On-Road And Quite Aggressive Off-Road

Johnny Watts were sold out so Smart Sams went on the extra wheelset for my TranceE. They're so great I doubt I'll ever use the Minions again. ;) Hurricanes on the StanceE - they are really nice too, but obviously much more road-oriented. It's rather surprising how well they do on hard pack...

    Dropping Weight & Going Tubeless - Maxxis Ikon 27.5 x 2.2 (+ CF Saddle)

What's a 'moto ultra'? I run a Ikon on the back of my OCCAM. It's a very light and high-rolling knobby, Rekon on the front. My 27.5 tubes are about 7oz each on the TranceE. Running Schwalbe Smart Sams for my mostly road-setup. Supposedly you can run them tubeless, but sidewalls are known to be...

    eMTB Options For 2024

Nice trails to ride on. 👍 Alberta? Lots of young trees. I'm actually from BC, dad was Canadian. 😊 I put my ebikes on the scale...the Stance and Trance are nearly identical, with a half-pound difference in the battery pack. So obviously they fit a few more cells in the Stance. I have not tried...

    Curt 18055 2-bike platform rack

Without any reference it's hard to tell exactly what you're looking at. But all hitch racks tend to be a bit springy and sway-ey. A hitch rack has an insert cinch feature to tighten it up so it doesn't flop around. A 2" receiver has a lot more rigidity. Curt is about hitch racks, so the...

    eMTB Options For 2024

One of the mountain single-track areas in the very southern Sierras has trails that go down to a dead-end, so steep you can't make it back up. One guy and his son had to leave their bikes, hike out, and get a recovery team. I've seen riders miles from civilization with a blown radiator, or a...
