With 125% tariffs, will the e-bike market die?

Most here (and elsewhere) are not builders. If they can't buy a ready to ride e-bike, they won't buy period.. Before covid and when I bought my 1st e-bike, prices were high, now they are low but I'm afraid it's only going to be this way for a short time. I have two e-bikes but if I was in the...

With 125% tariffs, will the e-bike market die?

Well, computers, phones etc. have been exempted for 90 days but not e-bikes. Not sure the market will bear doubling the price of our bikes. Opinions?

    2022 - Top 12 Bafang Ultra M620 Ebikes

Sounds like it may not be as feasible as I had hoped. Oh well, I can live with CANBUS but I'm envious of those that can make changes to smooth this ultra motor and power delivery out.

    2022 - Top 12 Bafang Ultra M620 Ebikes

How expensive to convert CANBUS to UART? I'm thinking new controller, new display, new wiring but should be able to keep the motor?

    2022 - Top 12 Bafang Ultra M620 Ebikes

I really wish I had a UART motor. I'm not even sure if it's possible to adjust any settings with CANBUS except for really basic stuff

    2022 - Top 12 Bafang Ultra M620 Ebikes

Unfortunately I think manufactures are shy to put the M620 in their bikes for legal reasons. Of course they can always add the disclaimer "for off road use only" as many do but that's a bit of a joke when you see urban bikes with the M620, obviously made for street or trail use

Fat STREET Tires are WAY BETTER for Riding on Pavement than KNOBBY Off-Road Tires

Depends where you ride I guess. I've never had a flat with street tires. Knock on wood.

    New tires

FWIW, I contacted the Amazon seller about the bubble in my Schwalbe super moto x tire. Since I bought the tires last Sept, I'm well past the return window. The seller suggested I contact Schwalbe north America which I did... I filled out their online warranty form with copius pictures that they...

Wife used to put the 50 gallon trash can in the bathtub so if it overflowed, it would run down the drain, for some reason, this time she didn't. We got home and water was dripping out of the light fixtures in the kitchen. RO machine was upstairs.. Fish were fined though. :)

LOL.. we had an RO water flood too. Left the house on vacation with the RO machine trickling into a 50 gallon garbage can.. Overlfowed and flooded the house while we were gone

Well, the OEM charger has no screws holding it together and there is no fan so I'm afraid disassembly might could destroy it or at least make a mess. It's just a black plastic box with a green light and a red light. I hate dumb chargers but this is all I have at the moment. I'd love to be able...

    Barrel size matters

That's pretty cool. TBH, I'm never far from the battery while it's charging so simply setting an alarm on my smart phone has been fine for stopping a charge. The worst that can happen is I miss the alarm or it doesn't go off and the battery charges to 100%

I did contact grin a few days ago and have yet to receive a reply. I contacted both their US distributor and the company itself

    Barrel size matters

Doing the math really isn't very difficult. My charger charges my pack 1% for every 2 minutes on charge. I simply note the charge remaining at the end of the ride and then set an alarm to remind me to unplug the charger. I could get real fancy and put a timer on the charger. LOL. Of course...

    Barrel size matters

Yes, I believe someone else w/ my battery bought a satiator and when connected voltage was 12.5 and not the 48+ volts that the battery was actually at. I don't think he was able to get the satiator to start even with the "force start" feature. Bad handshake I guess? I would hate to spend all...

    Barrel size matters

Indeed. I use basic math and a timer to charge to approx 80% or whatever level I want/need but being used to hobby grade chargers with a plethora of information and then going to the black box "green light" ebike charger is kind of a bummer. I do like the ability to monitor the charge progress...

    Barrel size matters

Yeah, that's the worry. The handshake isn't the same and even trying a "forced" charge won't work, this after cobbling together the correct connector if I can find one

I'm running into similar issues. I want to by a satiator but can't find the plug that would fit my battery. Someone mentioned they make one called "other small three pin" but I can't find it on their website. My charger plug looks like an XLR but it is not
