Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

@Kris Mason The last couple of years have been unpredictable as far as model introductions are concerned due to the aftereffects of the pandemic and related supply chain shortages. My SL 5.0 was not available -- at least here in the States -- until the early part of 2022. I put down a deposit in...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

For the models that have them, the MasterMind TCU was released for the 2022 model year. Not sure if anything on the other models changed, but the "new model" emphasis for '22 was on the non-SL Vado/Como line.

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

Quick comment on the AirTag (which I know little about). The first place I'd think of is to remove the TCU (single screw) and adhere it either to the inside of the top tube or maybe the bottom of the TCU? But will it work if it's shielded inside an aluminum frame? The reason I ask is that if for...

    2023 Trek Fx+ and Dual Sport+

That range seems really short, but I wonder what conditions it's based on. That is, would this be riding in the Eco-type mode, or with a medium level of assistance? As we all know, this makes a huge amount of difference on an e-bike (and any EV for that matter). My wife can do far better than...

    Trek's version of the SL?

I got an email from Trek the other day announcing some new nice-looking "lightweight" e-bikes and was surprised at some of the similarities to the Vado SL. It even comes in "non EQ" and "EQ" models. Some similarities to the SL, besides the "40lb" weight, are the 250W motor and the availability...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

The new model actually has some features targeted at e-bikes (not ours though) so I think it's a safe assumption that the basics are now working correctly.

Looks nice, would do the job, and a much cheaper option for those who don't need the competition-oriented training data on the standard Edge devices.

My wife loves my previous Garmin Edge that I gave her, and she is by no means a gadget geek like I am. In addition to the ride stats the maps are very useful. Unfortunately, her Bosch-powered Trek has no bike connectivity features.

Just completed 1000 miles on my Turbo Vado SL 5.0 EQ

Interesting since I just posted a thread about possibly narrowing mine a bit.

    Trim bars on Vado SL

Has anyone trimmed the bar width on their Vado SL? Yesterday I rode my old Crosstrail hybrid for the first time since getting my Vado SL 5 and noticed right away that it was more comfortable for my arms and wrists. The basic geometry of the two bikes is very close, but what I observed is that my...

That's correct, and I also changed mine from medium to light with beneficial effects.

Lock the crank to lube chain - tool

I doubt that there could be an issue with turning the motor itself backwards since there's really not that much that can go wrong there AFAIK. However, if there are reduction gears between the motor and the chainwheel, what you are doing is driving that gear train backwards and possibly putting...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

My Shimano MT7 shoes are the most comfortable SPD shoes that I've owned. They're sort of intended more for "bikepacking" than hard-core MTB riding and are flexible enough to make them comfortable for walking around while still being stiff enough for riding. Also, once I had shoes with the Boa...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

I could have written this post, especially the comparison to the Crosstrail, which has been my go-to bike for >10 years. The "old trusty" Crosstrail is currently hoisted up in the garage as I've had no urge to ride it lately after getting my SL. And I also like being able to lift the SL onto my...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

@waghmare I assume you meant "carbon fork" unless you have something that the rest of us do not. I finally figured out what the issues were with my riding position and solved them with a bit of a posture change and will not be trying to raise the bars. I am also planning on getting the...

Specialized Turbo Vado SL: An Incredible E-Bike (User Club)

I used this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CPJMCDX?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details. It was not without issues, as I had to use a file to narrow the center tab so that the headlight would fit over it. It doesn't matter now since I am out of ideas for finding a riser stem that works with...

    Vado Handlebar modifications solutions/suggestion please

Just to clarify further, is your bike a SL 5.0 with the FutureShock? And did you end up with a stem extension on top of that? If so, that's interesting since the FS has some restrictions on what stems, etc. can be used on it. For example, a conventional top cap wouldn't ordinarily work with the...

    Specs for Handlebar Stem Replacement

The OEM Specialized stem that came on my Vado SL with the FutureShock 1.5 is made to fit a 1-1/8" steerer, and it has the thick shim installed. To install a standard 1-1/8" aftermarket stem, I just had to knock the shim out of the OEM stem and press it into the new stem and slide it onto the FS...
