How local bikeshops treat your online purchase?

I've been fortunate with my LBS (who does not sell my particular ebike -- and in fact, sells no rear-hub ebikes at all!) I had two significant issues arise during warranty period -- in each case, I started the proceedings by speaking with the manufacturer crew (Vintage Electric Bikes) in...

    I hate your ebike...

It tickles me for any number of reasons... I think many "serious" pedal cyclists tend to view any ebike (and perhaps especially the throttled ones) as an insult to their personally-defined conception of cycling. But why they allow themselves to be bothered when an ebiker passes them...

Schwalbe Marathon Plus a lot worse than stock Kenda tires!

I should add most of my biking (easily 98+%) is paved trail or roadway. Tree root buckling of the otherwise well-kept paved mixed-use trails, and bad pavement/pothole street conditions (to be avoided)... but no real "off road" riding, gravel or dirt, in my usual routes.

Schwalbe Marathon Plus a lot worse than stock Kenda tires!

Slightly related to the original post (Schwalbe at least!) -- I just put two new Schwalbe Fat Frank's on my bike today. They're the tires that are stocked by the makers when the bike is purchased. (And by "I just put"... of course I mean the LBS did the work ;) The front tire still had a...

Will EBikeshare Replace EBike Ownership For Most People in Cities?

Yeah, it is when I look at it that way, @harryS! 18 days, 3 hours & 54 minutes cumulative! But I have a little slower average speed than you think, and the 26,154 minutes (as of tonight) covers 5,898 total miles. Of course I wouldn't likely be the ideal ebike rental customer in that model -...

SHOW us YOUR PIX here .... Odd, WeiRd ,UnUSuAl or EyE CaTchIng things from your rides

Some bike art on today’s ride. A long wall (around a construction site) covered in dozens of flower-adorned bikes each painted all over in one color. There were also small inspirational type mottos or sayings scattered between the bikes.

    Water Bottle

Don’t have your model bike but I opted for a handlebar cage mount (Topeak) as there really was no other suitable location on the frame for me. Been very happy with it.

Will EBikeshare Replace EBike Ownership For Most People in Cities?

I’ve accumulated 26,000 minutes in the saddle of my ebike in 15 months. At JUMP’s new 25-cents/minute rate, that would cost me twice as much as what I paid to purchase my ebike!

How many miles do you have on your ebike?

Nice! I have in my master ride-tracking spreadsheet, a formula to count office commute rides and display the cumulative gallons of gasoline saved by not driving my car to work. I have a pretty short commute at 10mi direct round trip. But worse for calculating "savings" -- I already drive a...

How many miles do you have on your ebike?

So this happened tonight at long last! 5 days after the 1-yr anniversary of the 1st ride on this bike, June 7, 2018.

Learning to ride an ebike: How ebiking skills are different from general cycling skills, and how they develop

The mount shown at 1:32 is crazy! But I can see I'd probably try it if I had that full-suspension jumper!

    Bicycles have gotten 'insanely expensive'

My local shop had a bike in for a tune up awhile back -- a completely custom-built tandem bike built for a very serious blind rider; I just remember the all titanium frame for starters. Could lift the whole thing up with 2 fingers... I think they told me then it had been a $17k build.

Learning to ride an ebike: How ebiking skills are different from general cycling skills, and how they develop

Amen! - @DouglasB is spot on -- I'd not ridden any bike for 25 years before I got my ebike, and so I forgot all the "basics" like that. And it seemed to take me several days/week or two of riding, to "relearn" that behavior... I'd curse myself at the same intersection (where I have to stop...

Learning to ride an ebike: How ebiking skills are different from general cycling skills, and how they develop

I think one of the biggest differences for the new ebike rider to remember, amidst the adrenaline thrills of having a fast bike which doesn't require athlete training (ie, to reach and hold speeds the average leisure rider usually can't produce or sustain) is that the rider remains obligated to...

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

Hehehe... my last ride if viewed in terms of elapsed time from leaving home to returning home was 30 miles, 8 hrs = 3.7 mph! A leisurely breakfast/coffee stop, two leisurely park stops, a leisurely late lunch stop... fantastic day out!

    Ebike reliability

I’ll hit 5,000 miles on my ebike this week. (Cafe model @ Vintage Electric.) I average about 22 miles per biking day; about 360 avg per month over last 12 mos. At about 4,500, the torque-sensing BB was apparently wearing out; too much play in it, side to side; derails became more frequent...
