    Maryland passes 3-Class ebike law

I ride in MD from Laurel to BWI. I just saw the new law this week, with the new classes 1-3 and the bump in power to 750W. Access is still limited by local laws. The best thing you can do is go to your city councils and county parks n Recr, show them the new laws and ask that they be friendly...

RW- A PAS electric bike is a bike with a throttle as well...you just use your legs to apply a stimulus vs wrist.

The Latest and Greatest from Optibike, R15

Only a couple years ago and 7-8K was a ridiculous price for an ebike. Now there are several high end offerings at 7k and up. 13k is up there, but on sale or buy a reconditioned and you pay 8-10k. At 29Ahrs ....you get a lot of lithium.

Ken- Agree with the response of the throttle. The plus to PAS is no throttle on long rides, and wrist cramping. It can be managed. I also ride a system that has BOTH, so I rid ein PAS and go to the throttle for special circumstances.

What Are Electric Bike Classes and Why Do They Matter?

Per above, Why 1500W, 35mph? From my experience and knowledge, these limits are where the bike experience and ebike technology converge. - 1500W allows for good speed up road hills (25-30mph) and can top out at 35 mph down hills. - About 1000-1200W is needed for 25-30mph on flatter...

What Are Electric Bike Classes and Why Do They Matter?

I'm piping back in after a couple years... I have been commuting 17 miles, one way since 2014. I have a Focus speed pedelec, 28mph PAS. I also have a converted DIY mountain bike using a Falco 500W system, PAS to 28mph+, on demand throttle to 28mph+. (hits 35ish tucked, down 3% grade) The...

    Drivetrain wear

I was an Opti owner until late 2012 and wanted to try a hub. I am back to a mid-drive now, a Focus PAS for $4k. I did the Opti throttle for 5 years, have a hub with PAS and/or throttle, and now a PAS mid drive. Because of the high investment, I won't go back to Opti until they offer the PAS...

    Drivetrain wear

Captain, I rode an Opti for 5 years. Yes, the power did cause chain stretch and cog wear. Especially on the upper gears (Smaller) cogs. I had to replace chain and cassette every 3-4k miles, and earlier if more off road stop and go.

thanks Ace for the report. Cool stuff. Q: What year is your Falco system? Did you get the freewheel (old version) or hub cassette style? Do you have the Falco controller or an after market?

Accessories: Having fenders and lights that are trouble free has added much peace to the commutes. I love the dependable frontlight - extends the riding season. Now I have external , rechargeable lights too, but they are backup and additional to safety and visibility. But I don't need them...

Owner of a New Focus Adventura S10, 2014

I'm in season 2 with the Focus S10 speed pedelec mid drive. At the end of last season, the chain started to skip. I had to ride at a lower level for less torque. About a month ago, I replaced the rear cassette, but the slipping came back. So I replaced the chain and all is well. The battery...

    sudden power loss

Robert, I kind of remember that symptom, back when I had an Opti. I think I had to charge the bike with the bike turned ON to reset the battery. It may also be the battery getting old and a weak cell.
