    Rotating ebike tires needed?

Rear hub motor here - my rear tire wears through the tread faster than the front. Given the hassles as mentioned above, to remove the rear wheel, I never bother rotating. When the rear gets worn sufficiently enough, I have the LBS replace it. Generally, the front wears for me almost half as...

    Vintage Electric Cruz

Don't know the west coast shops -- sounds like the perfect excuse to plan an overnight visit to San Fran / Santa Clara, and take the bike to VEB's HQ! Keep hoping I'll get out there ones of these days (east coast here) to meet the guys who made my bike and then got me through a few unexpected...

    Vintage Electric Cruz

It may be then, depending on the age of your controller, the local shop may be able to connect with Vintage guys and load new firmware to change the assist levels. Their newer controllers have Bluetooth capability for that “initial program load” purpose I believe.

What are your plans for winter exercise? Keep riding your ebike or an exercise bike?

Dec 1, 2018 - Feb 28, 2019, I rode 1,058 miles here in the D.C. / N. VA area, with coldest riding temperature probably 24f. I was regularly office commuting by then and kept that up all through winter. Then Nov. 2019 I started dating and my miles for the same 3 month span this past winter...

    Vintage Electric Cruz

...and PS -- my Cafe shipped with Fat Franks; I've replaced them as the tread eventually wears down, so far with FF's I've ordered directly from Schwalbe's website.

    Vintage Electric Cruz

Hi Marc - I have the Cafe, and the amount of assist provided in the levels is not directly editable by the rider. However, I was able to work with the service guys at Vintage when I installed a new controller a year into riding; it came with the 5 levels of assist all pre-programmed to give...

Did I Get Banned For The Day, Or ...

Won’t forget the term derecho ever since the massively destructive Mid Atlantic one that came thru DC in 2012! The National Cathedral where I volunteer as a facility tour guide was not even a year into assessing, and was still stabilizing, the 2011 earthquake’s $35M damages; the fast and fierce...

Photochromic sunglasses - yes or no?

The transition lenses on my prescription glasses are "ok" for bright sun, I don't really feel any eye strain when I'm biking. (It is an annoying limitation that they don't get darker when I'm in the car, however, thus requiring clip-ons if I want sunglasses-while-driving.) One thing I do love...

    Elephant in the Room

@dak1010 - 51 here, only two falls in 2.5 years, fortunately. 1 was while in motion. I was doing a broad, slow speed U-turn in a car-less empty street. It had rained in the early morning hours before my morning ride. My back wheel went across a slick manhole cover (my path had the front wheel...

    Name your favorite accessory

A surprisingly tough question, to pick just 1 accessory... Probably the mirror (Mirrycle) has to be the most-used. So handy/useful and permanently ingrained in my behavior now, that when I am walking amidst people on a sidewalk, I find myself automatically glancing towards my lower-left, to...

Let's get Locks and Chains made out of this ASAP!

That Altor makes me laugh; it is so ridiculously monstrous. Where exactly do you park & lock the bike that is so bad an area, you need to buy this and leave it at the rack? (Assuming the thief doesn't cut the rack and steal the locked lock while you're not using it... leaving you stranded when...

    Crowd Funding Concept...?

@EasyRiderDude It sounds like perhaps you were mixing "crowdfunding" with the concept of going in on a group-purchase...? Like, if you got 3 friends together to all agree to buy the same bike model, your little group might get a better price than if you bought just 1 bike. But crowdfunding...

Let's get Locks and Chains made out of this ASAP!

I believe the new material is housed inside the steel box - the grinder cuts through the box's outer steel plate, but can go no further into the interior, I believe is what the video means to show. (Though they don't then reveal the contents of that steel box...)

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

Hey @Alaskan your map image says in the header, "2018 R&M Delight" -- are those Trek stickers applied to the R&M in the 2 pictures? 🤣

Long term ownership: a general survey

Not quite halfway to the 5 year mark here. Vintage Electric Bike's Cafe. Some issues (purchased bike was a 'demo' bike at a discount... later, whole bike was replaced with a brand new one.) Manufacturer has been STELLAR in all regards in addressing / resolving the issues. Total miles on both...

Is white/blue colored NCM Moscow for girls?

Does this thread feel spammish to anyone else? When I first saw it and replied above, I felt that gut suspicion tingle that led me to my snarky-toned reply. ie, a first-time poster, about a less common bike / model, and the “I haven’t seen anyone buying the white one” comment... How or where...

New activities taken up during COVID-19

Nothing quite as constructive as all that, here... But I am psyching myself up for a summer decluttering... gonna Marie-Kondo my condo! Still riding now and then (though without an office commute Mon-Fri, since I'm on telework now, I find I ride a lot less overall, than before the pandemic.)...
