    Derailleur Upgrade

Putting a bigger chainring in the front will shift all your gears higher. You can also change out the cassette in the back with a different selection of gears.

    Upgrading hydraulic brakes - dIY

You could put $8000 Brembo brakes on a Honda Civic. But why? If he isn't doing crazy fast technical downhill mountain biking, stopping 400 lbs of rider and cargo on a steep downhill, or some other unusual use case, why does he need gigantic non-standard rotors? MTA: Also what will those...

    Upgrading hydraulic brakes - dIY

No problem. From your other thread, the Allant +7s has four piston Shimano brakes. Those are good brakes. You won't get much benefit, if any, from replacing them. You could replace the 180mm rotors with 203mm rotors to get a little bit more stopping power. You will have to install an adapter to...

    Derailleur Upgrade

An upgraded derailleur won't make a heavy fat tire bike easier to pedal. Your shifting may be a little bit smoother. Upgrading components on a $1000 Lectric may make sense to fix a specific problem, like an uncomfortable saddle, but throwing a lot of money at a better groupset won't make it ride...

    Converting this to a mid-mount e-bike

I agree with Tom. The kits from Grin at ebikes.ca are great. However, I would consider a rear hub or mid-drive kit for that bike. It looks like all the weight is over the rear wheel and the front wheel may not have much traction. That bike is difficult to pedal because you are so far back and...

Also, if you are replacing the brake levers, keep in mind that ebike brake levers often have a motor cutoff switch built into them.

    Upgrading hydraulic brakes - dIY

You can definitely do it yourself at home. You may need to buy some tools if you don't have them. A workstand is helpful, but not required. Two piece rotors will need less truing. They won't improve your braking performance. Semi-metallic pads will last longer and be noisier. Organic pads...

Class 3 Bikes: What Do Manufacturers Know That We Don't Know?

Even generally well intentioned people tend to think about things in terms of how it affects them and perhaps their family and friends. Talking about body counts for pedestrians is a bit hyperbolic.

Class 3 Bikes: What Do Manufacturers Know That We Don't Know?

While it would indeed build a lot of bike lanes, that wouldn't be a popular idea. Try posting the idea on a non-cycling forum and see how many thumbs down you will get. Most people in the US don't ride bikes regularly and would fight tooth and nail not to convert car lanes into bike lines on...

    High-end foldable e-bike

There is such a thing. Look at the price of the GoCycle. It may not be what you are looking for in an ebike. However, it is good at what it was designed for.

    High-end foldable e-bike

There aren't any dealers near me, so it just popped with a message offering a 30 day in home trial. It is odd though. I am only about 80 miles from their dealer in Pasadena and the software didn't suggest them. I had to drive into Los Angeles to buy the Brompton, but I was down there for work...

    High-end foldable e-bike

I put my zip code into the Gocycle dealer locator and it said there were no local dealers and offered me a 30 day home trial. It didn't say it was a free trial though.

    High-end foldable e-bike

Yes and no. The Electric Brompton is more integrated. The battery pack is easily removed by pressing a button and lifting it. You don't have to disconnect wires first. Then the bike folds in under 30 seconds and you can take in the restaurant with you. The Grin motor is more powerful and...

    High-end foldable e-bike

I will be putting one of those on my non-electric Brompton soon.

    High-end foldable e-bike

The Brompton isn't for everyone and the motor is not very strong. However, the luggage block on the front is solid. There is nothing flimsy about it.

Self-Loading Bike Rack - BIKE eRACK

It won't hurt it. The wheel is designed to take a lot more weight than that while you are riding it. Although I would strap it to the rack by both wheels so that it doesn't bounce.

Self-Loading Bike Rack - BIKE eRACK

It is a little more than I would want to spend on a rack, but I can see how this would be a game changer for people who have difficulty lifting a heavy ebike.

    Step through?

I understand that some people have disabilities that make it difficult to step over a diamond frame, but tilting the bike towards you as you step over it doesn't require you to lift your leg very high.

Class 3 Bikes: What Do Manufacturers Know That We Don't Know?

I don't believe that ebike laws are the main factor holding up ebike adoption in the US. The average person doesn't even know what the ebike laws are before they become interested in buying an ebike and maybe not even after they buy one. It is mostly a cultural thing. Infrastructure may help...
