    Pot Screw

A higher Ah battery will give you more range, not more power. You would need to replace the controller to feed more power to the motor. That is assuming that the battery's current rating (C-rate) can handle it.

    My Bike Totally Died Today.

It is not actually a problem. He ran the battery down to the low voltage cutoff and the motor shut off. Once he charged it again, the battery was fine. He got 39 miles on a 905 WH battery (assuming the manufacturer claims are accurate). That is 23 WH / mile. While high, it is not outside the...

    My Bike Totally Died Today.

Many people buy a second battery for longer trips or bring a charger with them to bump charge at rest stops. The battery's range will decrease with age and also in cold weather.

    My Bike Totally Died Today.

42V should be around the low voltage cutoff of a 52V battery. I would guess that is why it shut down. If you have a temperature sensor in your Bafang (BBSHD?), then the controller might have shut it down due to overheating to protect the motor. The BBSHD shouldn't overheat on a 10% grade if...

In search of WHICH charger to use

Here is information on what blank is needed for a replacement key: https://electricbikereview.com/forums/threads/resource-thread-battery-keys.23195/ MTA: Also, with the missing charger and missing key, it is possible that this is a stolen bike. You might check with the police department if it...

In search of WHICH charger to use

Another option is to move the Bafang motor kit to bike that fits you. You can pick up good donor bikes on Craigslist for $200-300 or you might have one in your garage. You still have to figure out the battery voltage or replace the battery if you do that. A lock smith could probably take care...

In search of WHICH charger to use

If you have a multimeter, you can measure the charge on the battery. However, 48V and 52V batteries have some overlap in the range of their state of charge. If it is a 36V battery, it should be obvious. People don't usually run Bafang mid-drives at 36V though. 48V is the most likely, but it...

Class 3 Bikes: What Do Manufacturers Know That We Don't Know?

Flying cars aren't going to happen in what is remaining of my lifetime. Pre-Covid, I thought that self-driving electric taxi services were the future around metro areas and perhaps the surrounding suburbs. That effort seems to have died off due to less demand and the safety/danger of...

In search of WHICH charger to use

Honestly, you might be better off buying a new battery. It sounds like that battery wasn't well cared for. If you don't keep a minimal charge on it, it can ruin the battery. It is hard to tell what the voltage of the battery is from that picture and your description. An expensive option would...

Ebikeling sells that display. I would contact them to buy a new 48V controller.

Ebike Market & Major Investments to Grow the Ebike Market and Access

These people are on a tight budget or maybe it is just a toy that they don't want to spend too much money on. However, when the $1500 bike breaks they will want it repaired or it will just sit in the garage and never get ridden again.

    Buying a new Controller

There are a lot of things. Here are a few off the top of my head. The obvious: voltage of the battery and the watt rating of the motor Brushed or brushless motor (it is most likely brushless) Hall sensors in the motor (it probably has these) Temperature sensor in the motor Cadence or torque...

Ebike Market & Major Investments to Grow the Ebike Market and Access

Maybe. People are reluctant to pay $50-$60/hr to repair a $250 bicycle. Sometimes it is cheaper to just buy a new bike. However, that isn't too steep for a $2500 bicycle. A lot of us work on our own bikes, but not everyone can or wants to do that.

Ebike Market & Major Investments to Grow the Ebike Market and Access

While I agree that we need more ebike mechanics/techs, I think there are other impediments to dealers working on bikes that they don't sell. Manufacturers would need to make parts and programming tools available outside their dealer network for that to happen.

    Derailleur Upgrade

No, the opposite. The more teeth, the lower the gear on the rear cassette. On the front chainring, more teeth will make all your gears higher. Higher gears are harder to pedal.

    Derailleur Upgrade

They do offer cassettes with different ranges of gears. If you get a cassette that is compatible with a Shimano 9 speed derailleur, it will work on your bike. The specs for the bike say that it comes with a Shimano HG200, 11-36, 9 speed cassette and not an 11-46T. So maybe I am not looking at...

    Converting this to a mid-mount e-bike

By clearance, do you mean the hub spacing or O.L.D.? Most bikes use 100mm spacing on the front hub and your bike doesn't look like an exception. You can measure it to be sure. The rear O.L.D. can vary a lot with the age of the bike. Be sure to get a torque arm with whatever kit you buy...
