    Noisy Bosch CX drive unit

Motor is on a 2016 Haibike XDuro Trekking RX. Bought it last year and started riding in March 2018. The diagnostics the store ran show the "date of manufacture" as 557 for the drive unit, whatever that means. DOM for the bike lists as June 17, 2016. I'll update as i hear back from the store...

    Noisy Bosch CX drive unit

Tried that. The noise is only on when the motor is on and engaged under light to medium load. Over the last week it also developed some grinding/knocking sound which supports the idea that there is something broken inside that is getting worse. I’ll ride it as long as I can and hope Bosch sends...

    Noisy Bosch CX drive unit

Update: Had the LBS take a look and hook it up to the Bosch diagnostics center. No error codes, as expected. Shop agrees that the noise is not normal and will file a warranty claim for me. Let's see what Bosch says.

Can the ROKForm Stem Mount be used with Specialized's Stem ?

I have the Rokform phone holder and this should work with almost every modern stem that has a stem cap. The phone holder replaces the cap. Do you have a picture of your cockpit?

Direct drive + Pinion gearbox + Gates drive system = Lowest maintenance powerful E-bike

It IS ancient history, I worked there in the 80s and 90s. But the quality issues were with the frames, which I think would be at least as important as the drive system. But I am sure they have adapted and just from looking at the catalog the new bikes look much better than back then. I was just...

Direct drive + Pinion gearbox + Gates drive system = Lowest maintenance powerful E-bike

Yes. Had the Peartune MSO in it from day 1.

Direct drive + Pinion gearbox + Gates drive system = Lowest maintenance powerful E-bike

I only tried one e-bike specific chain and it actually did not make the 1k mile mark. I think you're right in terms of marketing. My average speed over the entire year has been 18.76 mph that's 5217.07 miles as of today. Ignore the top speed. I had some GPS issues last week when it jumped all...

Direct drive + Pinion gearbox + Gates drive system = Lowest maintenance powerful E-bike

I went to 20t from the stock 18t after about 2k miles. From the limited information I found that seems to be the biggest recommended gear for the Bosch CX drive. But I am no expert with e-drives and it may well be doable. I'd have to refer you to one of the other experts on here. In terms of...

Direct drive + Pinion gearbox + Gates drive system = Lowest maintenance powerful E-bike

Good to know. Though, based on my many years working in a bike store in Germany, I will be forever biased against Kettler bikes. Back in the day they had a terrible reputation in terms of quality. But I will take a look at some of the new models when I get a chance. However, in terms of...

    Noisy Bosch CX drive unit

I did not. But if that is one of the circlips that can be seen from the outside, after removing the cranks, I'll take a look.

anybody ever get a flat with their shwalbe's and what was it from?

10.400 miles on Energizer Plus Tour and only one flat. A roofing nail. I doubt any tire would have resisted that one.

    Noisy Bosch CX drive unit

Thanks! There are two components to the sound. The overall level increased significantly, starting last Monday. When you used to hear just a little bit of the motor activity, now you can hear it from 10 feet away. On top of that, at low to medium load, there is a pulsed whine at about 5-10Hz...

Direct drive + Pinion gearbox + Gates drive system = Lowest maintenance powerful E-bike

Kettler just announced that they'll be closing. So I guess we can take that one off our list. https://www.spiegel.de/wirtschaft/unternehmen/kettcar-hersteller-kettler-endgueltiges-aus-werke-werden-geschlossen-a-1291490.html

    Noisy Bosch CX drive unit

Thanks! I do have you bookmarked. I feel confident to install the full kit you sell myself too, if I need to. I'll take it to my LBS first to see if they can talk Bosch into replacing it. Just wasn't sure if this is the sound that indicates bad bearings or bad gears.

    Noisy Bosch CX drive unit

I’ve been riding my Haibike with a CX drive since March of 2018 and just passed the 10.000 mile mark. Sure enough, earlier this week it started getting much louder than it used to be and also has some sort of modulation on the whine, especially under light to medium load. Check the attached...

    Need suggestions for fast ebike

Well, in a way he did me a favor by educating me where NOT to buy a bike, ever. I hope others also take this excellent advice.

XM700+ cracks on rim both sides of two spokes

You can use the non-disc version. Disc just means that the sidewall is not machined. Eyelets imho are more of a personal preference. I currently ride rims without on my Haibike and have no issues after over 10k miles.

XM700+ cracks on rim both sides of two spokes

As a long time wheelbuilder I have a personal preference for DT rims and Velocity rims. For heavy duty applications either the DT Swiss TK 540 or the Velocity Dyad. Both are available in 36 holes. Get new spokes too. The old ones are likely not the correct length anyway.

XM700+ cracks on rim both sides of two spokes

I would stop riding it and get a replacement rim. These longitudinal cracks are worse than a nipple pulling out, which is the more common failure. Worst case is a split of the rim that can have catastrophic effects when the tire comes off and the wheel fails. Like E-Wheels said, if the bike is...

    Tightening chain

Bikes with internally geared hubs usually have some sort of mechanism built in to change the distance from hub to chainring, thus adjusting tension. I do not know how it is set up for your particular bike, but usually you need to open the axle nuts and then there are screws to turn to move the...
