What happens when the battery dies?

When the battery is drained, or power-assist not enabled, it's just a normal pedal bike, and moves fairly well with the 7-speed gearing. There is no physical locking mechanism in the hub motor, but you can password-protect the KT-Controller to lock-out the power-assist functions. Just flat...

    Smart helmet?

The $120 a year for full featured tech support is a premium I'm willing to pay, and I'll take one for the team if it helps development and brings the cost down for others longer term. Maybe there'll be something better next year, relegating this one to the island of misfit toys. Courier...

    Smart helmet?

If you're handy, there are bunch of DIY rearview solutions out there, like this one.

    Smart helmet?

Sure if there is interest. I am excited and curious myself. I like my toys and gizmos! Btw, GoPro has a COVID-shopper discount on their current camera line, which has taken another bite out of resell prices on used ones. For <$50, you might find an old used semi-disposable GoPro on Ebay...

    Smart helmet?

Fair enough, not for everybody. I rationalize that I have all sorts of monthly subscriptions already, and none of those currently tell me there's a car about to hit me. I'm also not phased by supporting innovation developers, which I can appreciate is something not everyone would be willing to...

    Smart helmet?

The Classon by Brooklyness might check a lot of those boxes, though it is priced higher than your limit at $250 + a small monthly software subscription for updates and full functionality (which you can take or leave). It has gesture activated signals, accelerometer (brake light/crash detection)...

    Suggestions for rear light/turn signals?

Spanninga has some quality COB LED rear rack lights that look like something you'd find on a fine European luxury car. They come as OEM equipment on some of the priciest ebikes. No signals or accelerometer, just a minimalist and elegant take on the classic rear rack light. I was looking into...

    Suggestions for rear light/turn signals?

That Lumos line looks very Tron-like and seems to cover a lot of the same safety/visibility bases as the Classon. Does anyone have firsthand experience? On accident survivability I also liked the Hövding 3 Airbag collar, but eventually decided, for me, the safest riding would be avoiding the...

    Suggestions for rear light/turn signals?

I am stoked to be taking delivery of my Classon Helmet by Brooklyness this week. It is a feature-loaded geek helmet: with turn signals; accelerometer for automatic brake light/crash detection; running lights; 6hrs x HD front and rear cameras; bluetooth ready integration; holes to lock it up...

Will Boomerang V2 Cyclo Trac ever come back? It looked promising.

There is a shipping backlog from the global health pandemic underway, so I'm cutting all vendors a reasonable amount of slack on fulfillment times - esp awaited parts coming from Asia. It will be interesting to hear your experience with the Swisstrack.

    Qualisports owners?

Any of the Qualisports products ought to work from a sizing standpoint since both the seat and handlebar posts have several inches of adjustability. That said, optimal seat height should be adjusted from the ball of foot on lowest pedal stroke to the saddle, with slight bend in knee. That...

Will Boomerang V2 Cyclo Trac ever come back? It looked promising.

Founder, Kevin Fahrner, updates today that the Boomerang Cyclotrac V2 is hoped to ship by the end of June. I just ordered another one.

    eBike Robberies and security Problems

Founder, Kevin Fahrner, updates today that the Boomerang Cyclotrac V2 is planned to ship by the end of June. IMO, they improved the V2 case shape (to work with bottle cages), new alarm, and had some understandable delay with behind-the-scenes corporate changes in IoT vendor and corporate...

The ultimate pedal and shoes discussion

I had bad luck with my first set of VP-831P "sandpaper" pedals which seemed like a good deal. The soft Cr-Mo threading on one pedal arrived several degrees off center, and the threads were painted with a combo of thread-killing black paint and entombed sandpaper grit. Over half the threads...

    seat post theft??

I hear you on that - did that myself for years in college. I can be a big hassle, for example: some ebikes (like Qualisports) the seatpost is also a 2 foot long, 8lb 14ah L-Ion battery with connectors and cables. During daylight hours, with camera surveillance (outside ATMs for example) I...

    Basket holes distance on Dolphin

I took an unpleasant trial night ride and then snipped off the bulky 5-6v OEM light. I then hooked up a beautiful ATV-style 12v light bar under the front basket, which was, in hindsight, an electrical novice error. It burnt out a wee, but critical transistor on the mother chip of the...

    Basket holes distance on Dolphin

Good plan. The bolts in that video look to be 20mm or longer. I put 15mm Titanium in mine. For the headlight, there's more cable hidden in the control box that can be extended out. Don't be afraid to invert the hanger and drop it down below the Brompton block. The light is mainly a safety...

    Basket holes distance on Dolphin

The Dolphin head tube is tooled with three x M5 threaded front luggage sockets and comes with the shorter 85mm M5 bolts you'd find for a std water bottle cage (which use a Metric 4mm head allen key/M4 hex tool). These are on a frame-welded luggage bar that sticks out about 7.5 mm (l) and is...

Carrying case for Qualisports Dolphin and Volador

If you're not planning to use the fenders or rear rack, then there would be two vacant M6 eyelets that would make it easier to install one of the eyelet-mount derailleur guards and skip the dremel/metal saw hassle of an axle mount. Those look like they might need to be adjusted a bit as well.
