Can I Ditch the Car? Speed Commuter with Some Cargo Needs

My Magnum Metro+ will cover my 35 miles commute with only using 55% of the battery as I only charge to 80% and it never gets below 25% at the end of my commute. I'm using PAS 4 or 5 and averaging about 21 to 23 mph. The Metro+ will stop assisting around 25 mph in PAS 6 (the highest PAS). It...

Upper battery mount - missing screw and cracked

Update: Edward called me Thursday afternoon stating he had "borrowed" some spokes from his floor model Magnum Metro+ as Magnum still hadn't shipped the spokes (it seems they don't have any). Another good reason to buy from an LBS! I picked the bike up yesterday and its all good. I will be...

Upper battery mount - missing screw and cracked

Update on this mess: 8/29: Dropped of the Metro+ at the LBS where I purchased it (Sleek E-bikes in Tarrytown, NY) - Edward, the owner, is great 8/31: He had the upper mount replaced and ready to go. BUT, he noticed a rear spoke was broken so he ordered a bunch of spokes. And that's where it...

    Riding barefoot

I'm also a barefoot/minimalist runner (barefoot once a week or so with Luna sandles the rest of the time). I also don't like having my feet in restrictive shoes/socks. However, my commute is long and I've been using clipless pedals for 25 years, so I purchased a used set of Sidi Mega shoes off...

Westchester ebike club, post your ebike as your stamp of self invitation and membership.

I'd like to meet up sometime. I commute to work down the Putnam and North County trailways a few times a week. Good idea and keep me in the loop for any meetups.

    Speed Wobble,,,Concerned?

My daughter has a step-thru frame bike. I hit 35 mph going down hill yesterday and nothing happened. No wobble, nothing. Frankly, the upright seating position makes it fun at higher speeds as you really feel the wind. I wasn't even wearing a helmet..... Now, my 1978 Honda GL1000 with a...

Upper battery mount - missing screw and cracked

Thanks. I had been checking screws and such every weekend but also never thought to check the battery mounts. Glad to hear yours is nice and tight!

Upper battery mount - missing screw and cracked

I posted this a week and half ago in the general discussion portion of the forum but thought I should post it here as well. I experienced a flat on my Magnum+ and upon flipping the bike over onto a rubber work mat to work on it, the battery fell out. I then discovered that a screw was missing...

Flat tire and battery fell out!

The battery appeared loose on my ride home and I was experiencing a weird intermittent surge as the power seemed to cut in and out. Upon closer inspection, not only was the screw loose but the upper housing appears cracked. I’ve emailed Magnum. We shall see how they respond.

Creating a new transportation infrastructures for bicycle commuting

I agree completely. We need something like the American Automobile Association but for e-bikes. While I'm waiting on that group to form, I did join People for Bikes and the League of American Bicyclists. The more numbers (and money) they have, the better chance their lobbying efforts will...

Flat tire and battery fell out!

That's a good tip on checking the valve. In my case, the tube was ruptured along the seam for about 8"....so the leak was pretty obvious. I agree with your take on patches, it's easier to just carry a spare tube and throw it in.

Flat tire and battery fell out!

After work yesterday, I went out to the rack and discovered that the front tire was flat. I carry a spare tube so I was able to change it out. The tube looked like it just simply failed while sitting in the rack. I didn't see any sign of punctures, the Schwalbe Marathon tire looked great...

    Who rides in the winter?

I assume you are referencing the ZZipper fairings? I have thought of purchasing one of those as well for my commute. My main concern is that it would attract attention to my e-bike on the bike path that I ride on. However, the wind and rain protection, along with reduced drag would be...

    Insurance?

I purchased Velosurance on my 2017 Magnum Metro+. I have to leave it parked outside at work. Coverages include liability of $100k, vehicle contact protection for $25k, replacement value of $2500 (bike plus accessories), and a few other items (damaged apparel, bicycle rental reimbursement). I...

    Who rides in the winter?

As a runner, I have lots of cold weather running gear which works well if you layer up for the e-bike commute. I do wear an old pair of winter motorcycle gloves similar to these:

Battery range and notes for the magnum metro plus

I've observed that the battery indicator on the LCD screen reads lower than actual. For example, yesterday the LCD screen indicated 44.9 volts but a multimeter read the voltage as 45.5. I'm curious if anyone else has noticed this. I think the BMS is erring on the conservative side.

    Should wearing helmet be optional?

For those of you advocating for mandatory helmets, do you also advocate for mandatory car helmets? A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that car accidents were the 2nd leading cause of head trauma (behind falls) in children and "Among kids who suffered a head injury...

    6' 6" 180 lbs guy looking for city e-bike

The Magnum Metro+ works for me, I'm only 6'3" with a 36" inseam. Well, it worked fine after I put in a longer seatpost. The handlebars are adjustable with quite a wide range and the price is right at $2000. I think with a taller seat post, you'll be able to make it comfortable like I did.
