Are the early Ultras that much different from the new ones ? I've had mine for 4 years and never once wanted to change anything , except the throttle , which I removed immediately .

I'm so glad I approach my bike like I did as a youngster. Just throw a leg over it and ride.

Could that be the motor telling me "grease me please", which I haven't done in four years. Still with the nylon gear.

That's why I like my long wheelbase bike with 3.5" tires. Not the quickest handling but very stable on our crappy streets. I get real antsy when I demo new bikes with narrower tires and shorter wheelbases.

I don't even think about. I ride for fun and running errands. I can't even tell you how many miles I have on my bike.

I haven't run out of gear with the 52T. But with that said ,I might scale it back to a 48 or 50. I don't need a 35+ top speed.

May I ask, why do you want to go to a 39T ? I went the other way and installed a 52T because I kept running out of gears on the top end.

Do you know if the programming has changed that much from the early Ultras ?

I would not ride a bike on the street with knobbies. I crested a hill on a new trail and there was a washout with 4 to 5 inches of sand across the path. It would have been ugly with skinny tires at close to 30 MPH. YMMV

I have the same size on my bike and have no complaints. Eats up city street cracks and potholes.
