Range Anxiety and a Dealer Wants Their Deposit on Trek XM 700+

Altho' @Steve Barsby 's point may/may not apply to @Douglas Wever 's specific circumstances, I'm really glad he made it. (And Steve, it sounds like a great trip! Please do report back on all your impressions.) One piece of advice I received here, just before test riding a wide range of ebikes...

Thudbuster Too Bouncy; Bodyfloat May Be The Answer

@Douglas Wever I think you already got my suggestion on purchasing a less expensive BodyFloat. FWIW I had a BF put on my Juiced CC and, at least in my very first miles, have been trying to determine how effective it is. Trouble is, so far I've felt no shocks or abrupt sensations despite going...

    Cross Current

FWIW I upgraded the CC rear tire to a Schwalbe Marathon Plus (to max protection) while keeping the stock Kenda on the front, since it's easy to remove/patch/replace. The Marathon Plus sidewall says 45-70 psi and I'm running 60 psi. The Kenda sidewall says 50-85 psi and I'm running 70. Any...

    Evo 29'er, My New Bike

@grench thanks for the suggestion/invitation. I'll check it out. (So much to do, so little time...)

Just pulled the trigger on a new ebike

@grench based on my experience, you will thoroughly enjoy your new Bulls. Congrats!

    Evo 29'er, My New Bike

@JayVee I'm curious as well. However, most of my riding will be within the Gallatin Valley (as in relatively flat) and to the adjacent bases of the national forests (aka: steep trails not suitable for road bikes). FWIW I've ridden the CC five times now, perhaps an average ~5 miles per ride...

    I need help

@miah I think there's a basic conflict in your criteria. (I say that because initially my criteria were quite similar to yours). The broader the demand you want to place on the bike, the more difficult you make it for a given bike to meet all of them satisfactorily. And in general terms, also...

Range Anxiety and a Dealer Wants Their Deposit on Trek XM 700+

@Douglas Wever perhaps a bit more explanation is needed as I'm confused that your statement "My minimum round-trip is 12 miles..." At times do you require range for a longer round trip? If so, what's the max range you'll need. And given the Trek specs and your concern, why are you buying it...

    Regen question

Hey, Bob... Was looking at the forecasts there for this week and am impressed you can ride - even an ebike! - without melting into a puddle on the pavement. Mind the temps! Hope you're doing well despite the wx. Might (finally) have my CrossCurrent delivered by the end of the week. Still...

    Shunned by bike club?

I think a reasonable guess is that this comment - "my main concern is safety." - is just coming from a fellow biker who knows zip/zilch/zero/nada/bumpkis about ebikes, and so the person is imagining a moped-like powered bike in the midst of a very mixed rider group, including older folks...

CrossCurrent (& S-pedelec's in general) Legality

@Ian this is an easy issue about which to ask questions but the devil is in the details. I'm not one of the EBR experts on this topic but here's my best shot at answering your question. First, your MN sate law: The first part is pretty common. For many states, an ebike is 'just a bike' so...

    Cross Current

Tora's comments reminds me to ask those of you who have received your CC's: Is there an owner's manual that comes with the bike? Does it contain info like resetting the TS which Tora mentions above?

    IZIP E3 ProTour

I would sure agree with @wren that the ProTour gives a 'lively' ride, tho' not moreso than some. And another quality I appreciated was that the ProTour had a sense of stability or solidity to it that reminded me of how it feels to ride a Stromer. Not in the same class...but still noteworthy...

    Cross Current

Nice looking bike @Dunbar...but then I'm prejudiced. Yes, the LED battery level indicator is supposed to reflect bank voltage. The conventional choice would be for the measurement to be accurate at resting voltage, which would be at some point after use (an hour or two, not minutes). This is...

    Ridge Rider Comparison

Ah, 2-stroke rather than 4-stroke, @George S. Yes, different times. I saw a beautiful motor glider reviewed yesterday - the newest Stemme - that is self-launching and then all the noise goes away while you look for updrafts. Merely $350K. Seemed like a lot to make the noise go away. <s> We...

    Ridge Rider Comparison

@George S. actually I think that's where some importer/distributors are headed, and what makes me feel encouraged by Juiced, among several other mfgrs. @Tora Harris is already working on making his cargo bike controller offer a 'turn key' interface with GRIN's Analyzer, just as he's already...

    Ridge Rider Comparison

@Snackbardan those two bikes are not terribly similar. If the Cross is of interest to you, consider reading the (very long) Juiced CrossCurrent thread as a Cross alternative, and also consider that Juiced offers 2 battery sizes now with a very large third one becoming available in the Fall...

article on the best bike locks

+1! Best web source I found on locks as well...altho' the articles link to UK Amazon pricing so us stateside folks needn't bother using those links. Very worthwhile reading.

    Denver Electric Bike expo

Hope your wife wasn't hurt too badly, @Kaldeem. At least she demo'd one of the issues with throttle assist that's occasionally mentioned but perhaps not as much as it should be. I remember being surprised by this when first riding one of the BH EM bikes with a twist throttle. It's one thing...

How Important Is Electronic Gear Change Sensing (shift sensor)?

Don't overlook the importance of the motor's wattage. I found the E3 ProTour 500W motor, which lacks shift sensing, to make gear changing very difficult to accomplish without gnashing...and that was with very deliberate release of crank pressure when shifting gears. I could feather in the gear...
