    Big name bikes and Bafang

There's a lot of talk in this thread about batteries, while the OP was asking about Bafang. Last I checked, Bafang doesn't make or even sell batteries 🤔

    Big name bikes and Bafang

My perspective is based on limited experience with Bafang BBS01, 02, and HD motors, and extensive experience with Shimano, Bosch, Yamaha and Brose equipped bikes. Each bike I rode called itself an electric mountain bike, but hands down the big four are far more suited to twisty, technical...

    Easy motion battery warranty?

I'm pretty sure that EasyMotion used Dapu hub motors. I know their Evo Snow model did - I had one in 2017. Pretty much any battery can be rebuilt by someone with the skills etc. Regarding replacement or extra batteries and specialty parts, Voltaire Cycles (formerly Electric Spokes) of Verona...

    Priority Bikes at Costco

Looks like Priority has a $700 discount for Costco members on its Embark ebike. Priority ships directly to you and handles all warranty issues, not Costco, so the generous return policy doesn't apply. The $3300 Priority Embark is $2600 if you're a member and use the Shop Costco Next page...

    Rockstar owners

I see it now, sort of... but without frame geometry specs, it's moot anyway. I just noticed another difference from the grey and yellow pics, both of which were lifted from the current Rockstar page: The front brake rotor looks larger on the yellow one, and is a two-piece rotor, as well.

Great soundtrack! I can't see much difference in the fork's slack, though. Looks like a Vimeo commenter noticed the different downtube from the original photo, too.

Are you going to ride in snow?

IMO, fat tires are best for unpacked snow (but not too deep and definitely not on ice), while studded MTB-width tires work great on packed snow. A lot can depend on ambient temperature, sun exposure, etc. Pretty much any width studded tires will work on ice, but fat studded tires tend to cost...

    Rockstar owners

When your bikes arrive, I'll be curious which frame, crank and tires they actually come with. Two photos currently on the Rockstar web page show different set-ups. In the greyscale pic below, the motor's integration is horizontally oriented with the crank, but in the yellow one, it's angled...

Are you going to ride in snow?

Agreed! I splurged and bought a second set of compatible wheels, they're much easier to swap out.

Are you going to ride in snow?

Long ago, I learned the hard way what road treatments can do to bikes, so I steer clear of pavement for most of the Winter here in New England. I'm fortunate, however, to have 3k+ acres of state land with endless miles of various types of trails as my "backyard." When the snow's 4 inches or...

E-Bikes: The Fountain of Youth for Aging Athletes

Love it! Dave, your descriptions and analyses of your Giant are great, and "E-bike Evangelist" Jeff's summaries are spot on, too. Kudos to "Jillita" for producing this inspirational and informative piece👍 On the video editing side, the volume of the background music makes it difficult for me...

    Clunk in Suspension

Ugh, most of those low-priced Amazon and Walmart bikes and ebikes come with pogo stick shocks and other low-end components. Here's a video showing an "MTB" getting beat up pretty bad on trails - I started it at the ride part:

    Clunk in Suspension

I've ridden a handful of different "cheap" suspension forks - some have "lockout," some have "preload adjustment," some have both, and some neither. Can you post a pic like the top one below? This cheapo has lockout and preload dials, though the latter's pretty useless. The bottom pic is of a...

Can a 400Wh Yamaha battery replace my lost 500wh Yamaha battery?

I've never seen the 400Wh external Yamaha battery for sale online, but the 500Wh used to be sold by a few people for $899. Electric Cyclery always had it listed for $800.99, which is the best price I've seen, but for the first time in the couple years I've been checking on it, they're sold out...

    E-Biking with a Brain Injury

My sister's a severe brain injury survivor after her stalled car was rear-ended by a speeding semi-trailer. For the first few years post-injury, she couldn't drive and public transit in her town was sketchy at best. Unfortunately, ebikes/trikes were uncommon/unknown in these United States back...
