Reason(s) for the harsh Vado ride

I weigh 160# and I have measured the amount of movement on the fork after an average ride at just under 1/4 of an inch. The fork has 2 inches of travel but the spring is to stiff even at the lowest preload. At your weight It must be like a fully rigid fork. I will let you know where I end up.

    Roads closed due to COVID

The Goodman/Niagara trail along the lake is my favourite. If you start at Ontario place you can go out to Port Credit almost totally on trails. Another nice ride is from Spencer’s in Burlington through to Hamilton again running along the lakefront. Happy Trails. Also the Welland canal has bike...

    Fat bikes a fad?

Yes the more knobby the tire the more noise it generates. That is part of the energy loss. I love the silence of my Brose motor but some riders like the presence of a louder tire.

    Budget Discussions

When discussing the cost of my bike obsession I always have to remind my wife how cheap ebikes are compared to the other midlife crisis purchases that I could be fanatical about. It helps to bring up the subject of the desirability of an expensive boator a Ferrari from time to time to keep...

Reason(s) for the harsh Vado ride

I concur with Rochrunner and you. The Vado has a harsh ride and the higher speeds only make it worse. The cheap suspension fork does nothing for lighter riders like me. I am going to go the Kinect route as Stephan has suggested. I also run my tires below the recommended pressure. I am seriously...

    Roads closed due to COVID

The city of Toronto has closed selected roads to traffic to allow pedestrians, joggers, bikes, family’s to get outside and maintain social distancing. My normal rides take me along the lake where there are several bike paths that are interrupted by residential housing. The city has now connected...

    Fat bikes a fad?

Since starting this post I have learned a lot about the best use case for a fat bike. The most popular replies seem to be they are good for sand, snow and soft rides. No beaches anywhere near where I live and the ones I am aware of are small and would never allow bikes. For winter riding I wait...

    Fat bikes a fad?

I see the LR Thudbuster on your one bike. With all the cushiness of the tires why the the need for more suspension?

    Fat bikes a fad?

The physics is undeniable, a larger heavier rim and tire require more energy to overcome the their inertia. Also the lower air pressure wastes energy to flex the sidewall and generate heat. Over the same route, speed and wind the fatter tire always use more energy. To prove it to yourself ride...

    Fat bikes a fad?

Yes people do not necessarily buy what they need but with ebikes you pay a big penalty with battery range and motor stress. I like to ride too much to have a bike that is so impractical.

    Fat bikes a fad?

At the risk of upsetting a lot of riders I have to ask what is the current obsession with fat bikes all about? The extra weight and resistance of these huge tires kills batteries and makes motors work much harder. A thinner tire with full suspension performs better if you need to go rock...

Talk About The Kindernay Gear System

Looks very well made. Be interested to hear from users who put real miles on them. if a anybody ever made a hub dive to mount on that exterior cage you would have a gearbox and motor in one piece. And you could run a larger chain with perfect chain line that would last forever.

Fork upgrade for 2020 Turbo Vado 5

Thanks Stephan. I meant to say Specialized suspension stem like the one used on the Vado SL. It looks like a nice lightweight solution.

Fork upgrade for 2020 Turbo Vado 5

I am thinking of removing the suspension fork on my Vado 4.0 and going to a rigid fork. The stock fork is terrible for light riders, no compression at all. I am wondering if I can retro fit the specialized suspension stem? Has anybody tried it?
