    Cannot believe the price increase

I run a steel fabrication shop and the price of raw metals is taking off. Copper, steel, stainless and aluminum. We use mostly steel and I used to get quotes good for 90 days now my quotes are good for 48 hours. We do not use Chinese steel mostly American steel some Canadian. Also wood prices...

    Outlet timer and delay?

I use a 24 hour rotary timer and unplug after a day if I don’t go for a ride. However Garrison makes this fully programable timer that can do anything you want. Mine is probably 20 years old so not sure if they still make it. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/184821686624

Charging. Do you charge on the bike or take the battery off to charge it?

Live in a condo so always charge indoors off the bike. I allow the battery to acclimate for a few hours before charging and usually charge to 80%

Reason(s) for the harsh Vado ride

The fork came from Specialized off of a bike that was badly damaged in shipping and was being scrapped out for parts. There was a small scratch on the fork but other than that it looks fine. I am not sure what model of bike it came from.

Ultimate DIY Milk Crate Storage System Upgrade 2.0?

I had two small pieces of 2x4 lying around so I slit the down to 1/4” thick and made this box. It is held down by bungee cords. It’s a real conversation starter when riding I get all sorts of comments and thumbs up. People always remember me as the flag guy.

Do you wear a mask when you ride?

I am always masked up. In the winter it helps me stay warm right now it helps me avoid eating millions of little flies that are breeding near the lake. On hot days I wear a wet bandana which keeps me cool for 15 minutes.

    Specialized battery solution. Problem solved!

A follow up after a few hundred km and pulling the battery out many times. Still fixed. I can set the battery in using only two fingers and it catches every time. What a relief.

Design error on the battery lock on Turbo Vado 5, and more models…?

I have both a Vado and a Pedago the locks on both are very cheap. On the Pedago all bikes use the same key. My Vado had a battery that was impossible to remove or install with a key thanks to poor engineering. I worry less about a stolen battery than getting the whole bike stolen if left unattended.

Using Ebikes As Tools For Meeting a Health Challenge

In spite of the image that ebike riders are cheaters these posts prove otherwise. We may need help to ride but we are a tough bunch regardless. Alaskan, Catalyzt and Mschett I am thankful for your stories and hope your road is long and filled with many good memories. Ride on.

But isn’t that data over two years old. I was hoping that better batteries would be available after a two year wait.

    Forum Features: Your Opinion Wanted!

Since we are an older bunch here how about a category for the discussion of health improvement. I have seen the issue come up here and the stories are very inspirational. Ebikes are such a great way to get older people active and outside to the benefit of their heart, lungs and weight.

Known Issues & Problems with Specialized Products + Help, Solutions & Fixes

Although Brose doesn’t have direct customer service in North America the LBS are trained in Brose systems and they can contact Brose if they need to. After 5,000 kilometres no issues on my Brose motor, still quiet and powerful enough for my needs. My LBS is doing software updates and continue to...

    Why do ebikes need gears?

Canada may be a small ebike market but our regulations do not force transmission use. In Canada an ebike is limited to 110kg or 260 pounds!!!😳. At 110 kg you could add a lot of motor, battery or gearbox. The high weight was put in place to accommodate scooters with lead acid batteries many years...

    Why do ebikes need gears?

Well this post got way off topic pretty fast. But from some of the on topic posts I have learned that if a bike has a transmission because the rider needs it then you might as well have it do double duty and connect the motor through it too. But I am thinking that as electric cars mature we...

    Why do ebikes need gears?

But electric cars also struggle with weight. Manufacturers are going to great lengths to reduce their weight by using aluminum everywhere even though it costs more. If adding a transmission to an electric car would allow lower weight I am sure Tesla would be all over it.

    Why do ebikes need gears?

OK so the human part of the bike needs gears. But the motor is a separate element that can be attached with or without gears. On a plug-in hybrid car the ICE engine still uses a transmission but the electric motor does not. Electric motorcycles and scooters also do not use gears.

    Why do ebikes need gears?

As more and more electric cars become available it is becoming clear that transmissions are going to become a thing of the past. Only the Porsche Taycan has a transmission and it only has two gears. The argument is that an electric motor can deliver maximum torque over a wide range of RPM with...
