    DEW-E vrs EL Kahona

I haven't ridden the El Kahuna but I love my Dew-e dl. My city streets have lots of irregularities so not so different from gravel. I've ridden it a fair amount on crushed gravel also. Sweet bike.

What -- even remotely related to your ebike -- are you thankful for?

I'm grateful for the friendships that biking has brought me. And though we would continue those friendships when we can no longer make it up the hills, ebiking has kept us rolling on our activity of choice.

Do you regret buying (or not buying) Step-thru vs. Step-over frame?

I had a checklist of what I wanted in a bike and knew there'd be some compromises. in the end the thing I gave up was the step through cause the bike I fell in love with didn't have that option. Right now I'm riding it with a box bag on the back. I can see that I'll probably be ditching that...

    Removing battery when transporting

Just checked with Kona. My Dew-e dl has a removable but integrated battery and they told me to leave it on. The battery isn't that hard to remove but it leaves a lot of stuff exposed.

Shimano Steps E6000 inaccurate speedometer and odometer

It is a sweet bike. I can keep up with my buddy who likes to cruise at 15 mph and does hills, or turn it off on a trail with an 84 year old friend who ambles at 8 mph. I'll use it for errands even if my return trip is all uphill. So glad it is working for you.

Shimano Steps E6000 inaccurate speedometer and odometer

Did you ever get a resolution on this issue @EmilyRides ? I've known that my odometer was somewhat inaccurate but I've always been someone for whom an aproximate mileage is good enough. That said, if it is fixable I would prefer getting it fixed. Was your shop able to set it for your tires...

    My Kona Dew-e DL 2022

So glad you love your new bike @EmilyRides It's a sweet bike. I'm excited to have another dew-e fan around. I actually rode 36 miles today, way longer than I've ridden on a single day in several years!

    My Kona Dew-e DL 2022

Generic bike manual was provided but not much use. I found a manual for the Shimano Steps e6100 motor online. One thing to note is that Kona used Shimano's mountain bike motor display and controller on our bike. So you want to find a manual that has both displays. I think this one should...

    My Kona Dew-e DL 2022

@EmilyRides I just reviewed how to do this. Use the controller that you use to change assist levels, instead of tapping the bottom button, you hold it for a couple of seconds until you see "walk" on the display. I haven't really needed walk mode so haven't used it beyond learning how to turn...

    My Kona Dew-e DL 2022

@EmilyRides The mauve color grew on me. My bike came without pedals and though I went with platform pedals, I suspect you could choose clipless - though I don't know that for sure Do they have a price for the 2023 model? The price jumped $300 between 2021 and 2022 so one thing to consider if...

    My Kona Dew-e DL 2022

    1. The mode button is a tad awkward but I wouldn't say hard to reach. I'm getting used to it. The minimal display does have a 5 bar display for battery charge which gives you an idea of how much you've used without checking the range. The default is the speed and just one push to see...

No local availability of e-bike I want - what to do?

@EmilyRides I also found the Kona's checked all of my requirements but I had to wait several months for my bike. I'm a little easier to fit than you are but below are some ideas. Kona does have a bike fit form on their web site which might make you feel a little more comfortable picking a...

No local availability of e-bike I want - what to do?

I had to wait several months for my Dew-e but I'm glad I did. My local shop in Kansas City had a small Dew-e last time I was in there. Maybe your shop can make a trade with another shop. Not sure why Kona is still struggling with supply issues. I love their bikes.

    My Kona Dew-e DL 2022

Many ebikes, including the dew-e have a walk mode which should help you walking the bike. That said, I love that my ebike is lighter than most. I can get it off the rack by myself and suspect I could get it on by myself if I had to. It just feels more bicycle-like than some other, heavier bikes.

    My Kona Dew-e DL 2022

Great to meet you Emily. I went back and forth between the regular Dew-e and the DL. In the end I chose the DL but suspect I would have been fine with the other model. As an experienced cyclist I suspect you'll do fine with the gear range on either. This bike is considered a gravel/city bike...

    Maxxis Re-fuse tires

I don't ride in a lot of mud, at least not since that time my husband convinced me it would be okay and I ended up digging clayey mud out of my fenders! But my city rides with friends have lots of surprises including an occasional muddy patch. My goals are to stay upright, have as few flats...
