    Ebikes "at work"

I pre-ordered a Yuba Spicy Curry AT all-terrain cargo ebike yesterday. It differs from the regular Spicy Curry by having a front fork suspension, seat post suspension, knobby tires, and a Bosch Cargo Line motor with support up to 28 mph (i.e. it's a Class 3 bike). I tested the Bosch Cargo Line...

    Helmet Recommendation

Being able to communicate with your fellow rider(s) is definitively a safety feature. For the past two years my girlfriend and I have been using Sena helmets when we ride together. We can talk throughout our ride, which makes the whole experience more pleasurable and sociable, and we don't have...

When is an e-bike not a bike? (article)

First of all, I don't agree that Van Moof is a super-cool company, "the Apple of bikes." For one thing, their designs are ugly, starting with the top tube. I don't get that instant desire to own one as I got, back in 1984, when the first Macintosh was announced. I am a retired architect (now a...

    Yamaha error 15

Sorry to hear about your problems with your Yamaha PW system, @Lopez. My experience has been the opposite. My Haibike's Yamaha PW system has been extremely reliable. In over 5 years and nearly 15,000 miles, nothing has gone wrong. So much so that a conventional bike shop services my bike for...

    Replacing My Schwalbe G-One Tires?

I've had Schalbe G-Ones on my Haibike eMtn bike. They were good on pavement and OK off-road. The wear on your tires, @MrLibraryMan, looks normal. When I had a devastating puncture by a sharp piece of metal lying on the road, I went back to Schwalbe Nobby Nics because they are grippier off-road...

    Schwinn

The short answer to @Timpo's comment, "I don't know what happen to them" in post #5 is that Schwinn went bankrupt, its name acquired by an investment group, then sold and resold again and again. Wikipedia has a good write-up. I still have my Schwinn Paramount. By the time I got it as a used...

    Introducing Jones Motorbikes!

I have been using a Jones H-bar on my Haibike eMT for years and like it a lot. I would like to see an electric version of the titanium space-frame bike with titanium space-frame fork!

Tern GSD 2021: How does it perform on hills?

Good to know that the Bosch Cargo Line motor is up to the task. Last year I bought my girlfriend a Tern HSD S+ with a lesser Bosch motor, and I was disappointed with the weak uphill performance. But, at the time, the Bosch Cargo Line was not yet available for the GSD. The good news is that my...

    Yamaha error 15

According to this error code list you have to replace the display.

[Tip] Yamaha PW - How to check the number of cycles & absolute battery capacity

After five years and 13,500 miles on my Haibike AllMtn Plus: More than 701 cycles (all four LED's blinking) 75-100% battery capacity (all four LED's on) I recently bought a second battery. It was not cheap! But the new one has 500Wh vs the 400Wh of the original battery. Yesterday I went on a...

What set of features and price points would you prefer in your E-bike battery?

@Ravi Kempaiah, congratulations on your PhD and turning down Amazon! Looking forward to your future e-bike and battery products! As it turns out, the end of this month is the 5th anniversary of my Yamaha-powered Haibike. So, taking each item of the list above, 1. My Yamaha battery has lasted 5...

    Protective Bike Gloves

I have gone back to the classic or retro fingerless cycling glove: goatskin leather palms, crotchet cotton on top. Despite being leather, these are hand-washable in cold water. (I put some Obenauf's leather preservative on them after washing.) They run a bit large, and they shrink a tiny bit...

    Haibike Yamaha display wiring

@RickL, thank you for a very helpful video. I have to replace the wiring, just as you did, simply because the mount for the button-controller broke, and the mount for the display is loose. I found out that you cannot just buy the mounts, you have to buy the whole mount-and-wiring unit.

Has anyone installed a rear rack + mudguards on their Haibike? Any recommendations?

Thank you! Sent you a PM with my email address.

Has anyone installed a rear rack + mudguards on their Haibike? Any recommendations?

Nicely done! Yes, I remember buying some electrical brackets for my OMM rack four years ago. Yours are nicer. The rack itself has been solid and trouble-free, always carrying my Ortlieb panniers full of photo equipment.

Any reason not to go with Rad Wagon 4 for flat kid commutes?

My daughter recently bought a Radwagon4 to take my granddaughter to day care. She loves it. She lives in Seattle, home to Rad, so she had no concern about the unusual tire size nor worries should a problem arise with the bike. Like you @DesertTortoise, she was looking at a Tern HSD, but could...

[Tip] Yamaha PW - How to check the number of cycles & absolute battery capacity

Good to know what the "11:00" means! My Yamaha PW-X display is still good after 4 ½ years, but I will be on the lookout for the "11:00" signal!

Carrying photography gear on a ride

@Jimfastcar, you probably read my post from July 2019. I still use my Ortlieb panniers which I customized with padding from a laptop case and from Thinktank's Glass Taxi backpack. The padding can be bought separately from the laptop case and the backpack. The setup has served me well even as my...

    RadWagon 4 vs Tern GSD

@Walkbytwilight, I know what you mean when you say your Tern feels sluggish by comparison to your Rad bike. About eight months ago I bought my girlfriend a Tern HSD S+ (so we could continue dating during the pandemic; all our dates since have been ebike rides!). I feel the Tern does not have as...

Has anyone installed a rear rack + mudguards on their Haibike? Any recommendations?

I installed an Old Man Mountain Sherpa rack on my Haibike Allmtn Full Seven Plus four (or more) years ago. It is a very strong rack, supported by the axle. (You probably will have to replace your axle with a longer one, as I did, which Old Man Mountain also sells.) I carry panniers loaded with...
