Upgrading Eagle NX cassette to Eagle XX1 on Vado SL 5.0 Eq: Freehub compatibility question...

I replaced the wheels on my wife's bike with wheels that had the XD driver because we wanted wider rims and the 10 tooth sprocket. Two years and a couple thousand miles later, the GX cassette is still going strong, as is my original GX cassette with close to 3500 miles. The SRAM X01 chains have...

Saddle pressure, numbness, and maintaining sexual health at 59

Much good advice here on bike fit, too much padding, etc. I'll add that the right size (as in width) saddle is important, too, Too narrow a seat you're not resting your sit bones. This is for SQ Lab saddles, but the fit measurements apply to all saddles...

Zen Photon Ultra - limited version (Bafang Ultra, Rohloff Speed hub, Gates belt drive)

Ravi, my suggestions for specifics to talk with Bafang about are: 1) Understanding what the Pedal tab settings do for the Ultra, if anything. Most seem to have no effect and their naming implies an overlap with similar fields in the Torque Tab that would appear to provide more control per bike...

Zen Photon Ultra - limited version (Bafang Ultra, Rohloff Speed hub, Gates belt drive)

It's still Ravi's call. The double-fake-magnet method provides a better on pavement riding experience than the stock Bafang programming model can provide while still giving the rider an accurate bike speed readout on his display. Hardly "irresponsible." I suspect the gating question for Ravi is...

Zen Photon Ultra - limited version (Bafang Ultra, Rohloff Speed hub, Gates belt drive)

Well, that's up to Ravi, obviously. I did say it was "perhaps outlandish." Stop trying to make this personal. The facts are what they are. I've outlined a simple test procedure for anyone with an Ultra motor to verify my statements as to how the Ultra behaves with changes in the Torque Tab. As...

Zen Photon Ultra - limited version (Bafang Ultra, Rohloff Speed hub, Gates belt drive)

This looks like a great bike. I'm going to assume, given general layout and tires, that's it's intended for paved road/trail or easy/wide packed dirt trail use. Then, if it is indeed a Uart Ultra that can be tuned: 1) My first, perhaps outlandish, suggestion would be to employ my...

Chain length dilemma: Who to believe?

The EX1 is an 8-speed chain: “SRAM EX1 chain Marginally wider but much more robust, the SRAM EX1 chain now features rounded edges to increase shifting precision and boost durability. In event of a defect, the drivetrain can be run with a SRAM 10-speed chain if needed.”...

Ultra Tuning: Master Thread -- Start Here!

Yeah, looks like the rejiggering of the forums caused all those links to break. Should be fixed now, thanks.

Chain length dilemma: Who to believe?

I’m late to this thread, but since you have a Shimano Deore derailleur you should follow Shimano instructions, not SRAM. Some of the wide range SRAM derailleurs might have different chain length requirements.

    Bafang BBS-02/HD vs M600 vs M620 (Ultra)

I'm sure leaving my posted experiences out was an unintentional omission on your part. What strikes me as non-ignorable to this day is that after several years (dating back to 2017) and several"programming guides" being posted on the interwebs and here on EBR's forums, it wasn't until last...

    Road weenie karma

I’ve had nothing but friendly chats with analog road bike riders that I’ve encountered. And often waves from those traveling in the opposite direction.

I looked at 3 of our tires and couldn't find anything that looks like a date. This marking appears to be in the same location as your date: All 3 tires have the same marking. Anyway, since the new JWs aren't made in the size I want, I'm going to order these since while the ones we have will...

    Bafang Ultra Recommended Chain

I've been running the X01 chains on mine and my wife's Ultra/GX setup. Last time I checked we have over 2,000 miles and hardly any measurable wear, using a Starrett digital caliper.

The Eddy Currents look good if I was exclusively off road, but my riding is a mix of pavement and trails and I like the smooth running of the Johnny Watts.

I have the 27.5 x 2.8 original JWs. They've been great, but it looks like that size isn't offered in the newer version. I really want that extra width. I did find one source for the originals, but at $100 a pop I'm hoping for something better priced. I won't need new tires until next summer is...
