Carbon can be a real bone shaker, try and test a carbon bike if you can before purchase. If comfort is a priority carbon may not be for you. I am old school, and steel frames have always given the best comfort.

I used to get my 700C 32h's custom made, not that expensive and the wheels lasted forever. Worth looking into, in fact I may get some custom wheels for my Vado!

I am also a heavy rider. The main issue you may have is the spokes, regular checking and tightening may be needed. Not sure how many spokes are one each Sirrus wheel but really you want 32 per wheel. I used to run 32 hole DT Swiss R500DB rims on my old 700c bikes.

This may help it is for a 2022 Specialized Turbo Vado 5.0. I am a little heavier then you and will be running 58psi front & rear in my bike.

Great write-up, and congratulations on your new bike! I went through a similar process and ended up ordering the 2022 Vado 5.0 as I wanted the better fork, battery, and motor. Luckily, in my country, Specialized is doing $1000 off the RRP of the 5.0, so the 5.0 was a no brainer.

I would never buy a Trek, I tried the Allant+ 9 and found the Vado better in every way. Totally agree with you on the OP's LBS, let's hope he moves on from them 💩

Thanks I will have a look. My worry is that wax is water soluble so may not be ideal for the UK's weather.

Have you tried Trek's IGH, the Allant+ 9?

I have never come across waxed chains; what products do you use, and are there any downsides?

Congratulations on your new bike! I am awaiting delivery of my non SL Vado 5.0 and the wait is killing me!

I found the standard grips too slim for my large hands, so I opted for some larger Ergons. The saddle is a personal thing; for the last 30 years I have always used Brooks saddles and will not change as they are so comfortable and add a touch of class to the bike.

Nice ride! I tried the SL and normal Vado and glad I did as I much preferred the normal Vado to the SL. Just waiting for my 2022 Turbo Vado 5.0 in black to be delivered! I am changing the saddle, pedals and grips on mine when it gets here.

Not at all. In all honesty, the main reason I cancelled my 2022 Vado 5.0 IGN order was that delivery in the UK would have been February 2024!

I changed my IGH order to chain due to your experiences, and I think you may have saved me some major hassle. 🙏
