Velotric raises $12m, e-bike startup led by industry veterans

https://techcrunch.com/2023/03/01/this-e-bike-brand-by-lime-and-didi-vets-pedals-into-the-us-with-12m-raised/ I wouldn't buy one if I were in the market just yet, but they seem promising. Would like to see 750w, 52v, torque sensor, 9 speed version of their commuter bike. The frame and wheels...

E-Bike Batteries Are Catching on Fire Way Too Often And delivery workers are demanding safe charging stations.

ABS. Automatic transmission. Always on lights. Shall I go through the rest of the alphabet

E-Bike Batteries Are Catching on Fire Way Too Often And delivery workers are demanding safe charging stations.

There's a certain kind of guy who always wants to blame the user, not the manufacturer, when the manufacturer's whole marketing pitch is here's this new carefree way to get around. This guy gets off on feeling superior to the average Joe. The answer is almost always going to be make the experts...

Burnt to a Crisp: Name and Fame for E-Bikes Aflame (Open Thread of E-Bike Fires)

Brand is AOSTIRMOTORS. Onyx is some aftermarket car parts brand, not the emoto company.

New bike - Turris, a semi off-road touring aka trekking bike - replacement for 500 series?

One bad sign - the Turris isn't a 52V model. The new scrambler type bike is, but they're evidently not rolling it out for other new models, not yet anyway.

    Rad Power Bikes In trouble?

Although I should add, most lawsuits get settled privately so no truth gets publicized. Hard to say if that will happen here but the scope of the lawsuit has increased over time. I really hope it gets settled publicly to shed more light on what went wrong. Maybe since State Farm has millions of...

    UL Certified Ebikes

Someone should just leak it. Or at least someone should publish a partial highly visible list that other certified companies will naturally want to be on.

    Rad Power Bikes In trouble?

We'll get more content as the State Farm lawsuit against Rad proceeds 😅 We've already learned Rad uses Fritz Jou Manufacturing, an OEM bike assembler, and TD HiTech Energy, a battery supplier...

    Rad Power Bikes In trouble?

And who built it decides which technology is used. Still waiting for actual evidence of fires at other brands.

    Rad Power Bikes In trouble?

Lol and your rebuttal is denial rather than finding evidence of fires at other brands.

New bike - Turris, a semi off-road touring aka trekking bike - replacement for 500 series?

The 500 had a somewhat dated generic look compared to the other frames Ride uses, and they are consolidating their frames in source and styling. I imagine they'll update the 700 within a year or two to the thinner top tube style as well. Looks a lot better.

    Rad Power Bikes In trouble?

Battery fires are like plane crashes, if it happens even once there is a potentially serious problem. Now it's happened four times that we know about, vs none that we know about among rivals who collectively ship as many or more bikes. I'm not a judge convicting Rad - though there are a couple...

New bike - Turris, a semi off-road touring aka trekking bike - replacement for 500 series?

https://ride1up.com/product/turris/ Aside from trail friendly tires, this just seems like a bike similar to the Level and Core to hit a price point in between. Wish they'd just sell a hub drive version of the Prodigy for $500+ less. I like the overall design but $1000 more for a weaker motor...

    Rad Power Bikes In trouble?

There were four reports. I could not find any reports on rival brands except Super73 as noted. If you do find other fires, let us know. Juiced has delivered plenty of bikes as well, and there are no reported fires I could find. Plus Peter Flax has reported widespread problems with Rad brakes...

    Rad Power Bikes In trouble?

Plus the Aventon one coming Feb 28. And the cargo cruiser that Ride1Up already offers for $1400 Rad's target market is people who have a friend with a Rad and have never heard of any other e-bike brand. Because if they did, they'd buy that instead... Aventon, Lectric, Ride1Up, Juiced - for most...

When should I be replacing my tires?

The best tires for road riding are from Conti and Schwalbe, and they're much cheaper in German stores. Order from Rosebikes or Bike24. Curious about the relationship with torque. Got any links?

E-Bikes are ubiquitous New York City

We are not headed toward standardized shared batteries for ebikes or cars. In fact, we're further away from it than we were a decade ago when a startup, Better Place, attempted this for cars and failed dramatically. For ebikes, range is already far greater than what you'd travel in a day 95%+...

Burnt to a Crisp: Name and Fame for E-Bikes Aflame (Open Thread of E-Bike Fires)

Regarding the thread, one guy claimed it wasn't an OEM battery, which if true, Ecotric can't be blamed for. Do you have a link to that post in the FB group.

Burnt to a Crisp: Name and Fame for E-Bikes Aflame (Open Thread of E-Bike Fires)

It's a good move, but I hope it's not used as a distraction for the fire department's inaction on the indoor charging sites. There's no reason the city can't force those indoor sites to be reasonably safe too. Not directed at you, just some people want to focus on 'the positive' when the...
