Bosch powered bikes coming to the US

Thanks Ann, I'm having a great time with them and have two of three up and running. A fourth in a pile of pieces. Probably for parts scrounging. The S500 actually runs at 36v I'm not sure how long but It's being converted to an outrunner and getting front braking added to keep it safe at...

Bosch powered bikes coming to the US

This is an international forum, my conversations thus far on mid drives have been with a rider in the UK, and it speaks to Bosch quality IMO. The name carries brand recognition that many EBike companies aren't privileged to have, giving Bosch a hand up. I don't think their product warrants the...

    turn-key e-bikes with Bafang motor

Happy I went with Bafang over Bosch. http://www.bike-eu.com/Sales-Trends/Retailing/2015/2/Bosch-Starts-Replacement-Program-Classic-Line-1697763W/?cmpid=NLC%7Cbike_eu%7C2015-02-03%7CBosch_Starts_Replacement_Program_Classic+_Line

Can I use my own crankset?

Your wicker "bread basket" Idea is sheer genius and will really look great. Excellent Idea!

Can I use my own crankset?

Sorry, forgot to mention. You saw it comes unpainted? I just did an alcohol wash and a good rub out with coarse steel wool and rattle can painted mine. The finish came out quite nice. The Trek Pure like your Pashley looks better with a chain guard.

Can I use my own crankset?

Excellent! I looked for a Pashley for 6 months. I wasn't willing to pay the cost of an imported bike. I made several offers, fell asleep on one that got away on eBay. I rode one two years ago. A marvelously constructed bicycle. Reminiscent of the bike we found in the 50's. High quality welds and...

Can I use my own crankset?

The 100MM is a great kit and from a fabulous supplier. An install kit is now available for a conversion. Given the price of a decent fat bike I don't see it as that out of line. Since Bafang is moving into the OEM builds I wonder if they'll bother with the fat bike market. USA is a tiny market...

Idea for install battery on the side of rear rack?

Which Bafang are you looking at? EM3v has a nice 48V triangle pack if that fits. In order to give better guidance it would be helpful to know which bike model and which motor option.what kind of range do you want? 36V packs are going to be smaller. As to mounting on the side, a 48V pack would...

    Bafang and NuVinci?

California Ebikes has all the bearings, $7 for the readily available bearing(best price I can find), $18 for the OEM(not available from any source other than Bafang) and $12.50 for a 68MMshaft, Good news to me making the fix, should there be a issue relatively inexpensive. I'll probably grab a...

Dillenger Stealth: closer to GenZe e101 or eMotion Nitro?

Exactly! I read and then road. And having thought about all that weight on a rack lead me to trying a bike with a bottle battery and I was sold on the idea of everything centered and as low as possible. While many are happy with rack mounts, using my ride for grocery runs would have made an...

Dillenger Stealth: closer to GenZe e101 or eMotion Nitro?

Chinese manufacturing is all about standards set by the company branding the product. If you think the metallurgy and quality control in a Trek is the same as in the Walmart priced frame I'm afraid we're in for a big surprise and hopefully the injuries are not to severe. This move to put monster...

Dillenger Stealth: closer to GenZe e101 or eMotion Nitro?

Some rotten bugger had a RACK that broke and now took out two web sites to trash the company. What an evil nut. The whole battle is over a broken weld. Dillengers has offered a full replacement and still the nut prattles on. http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=66491

My Surly troll half fat e bike

Scary but well managed do just fine as you are experiencing. I haven't jumped in because of no secure safe indoor heated area to charge in the winter. Not something I want in the basement. Old guys post stroke need to charge in outdoor cabinets or BBQ's

    Bafang and NuVinci?

No reason for alarm but interesting to note and I was relieved to know that while it would take some time the repair is fairly straight forward and the parts are available. I will likely own a complete set.

    Bafang and NuVinci?

I only run 350W and have a small pocket laser temp gauge. I monitored for a month and never saw a problem so I never went further. I think heavy grease packing for both sides if crank, the needle bearings is critical for us year round foul weather riders. I'll be happier when I hang the Nokian...

My Surly troll half fat e bike

Nicely done on the stealth Lipo. That frame was not a fat bike frame? Rather you upgrades wheels and tires? Perfect having the 69-73mm BB. The new 100mm kit is out of my current fun money budget by a welcome addition to the BBS02 family.

    Bafang and NuVinci?

That's interesting to read. I'm afraid I misunderstood. I find the Bafang much easier to maintain and parts and support much easier to find. 8fun has it's problems but I find it much more sustainable even with the difficulties of working with a Chinese manufacturer. They do communicate and stand...

    Bafang and NuVinci?

Someone will challenge it in court and eventually win. Federal law is clear and supersedes. We went through this years back with modulating headlights. States said no federal law said yes. We ride with modulating lights. Occasionally me cop has to be shown the citation. E bike riders need to...

    Bafang and NuVinci?

Simply don't shift under load. Easy peasy. One of my three BBS is on a three speed sturmey archer. I just relax, touch the brake, it stops the motor, shift and restart. The other option is a smooth shifting gutless Bosch with a wimpy battery. Smoother but whimpy.
