Picking an eBike: Gazelle Vs. Specialized

thanks! I think it is really dumb to have to leave the key in while riding. For work and most rides I don't need to lock it and when I go downtown I don't leave it out of my sight for more than a few minutes with a simple cable lock.

Picking an eBike: Gazelle Vs. Specialized

The Gazelle might be a little more upright than the Vado 4 as I recall but not a full upright. For me it is about perfect. And there is always a little adjustment with the saddle position and stem height to play with. For every day commuting at 10-20 MPH it is a little out of the wind than full...

More aggressive tires for Ultimate C380+?

I will look into these next season. I have about 2600 miles now and the tires are still good.

Specialized Vado 4 vs Gazelle Ultimate 380+ (long)

The new Gazelle has a larger battery for the same price so that's definitely good. But I find for the most part the range for my commuting and recreational use is fine. The Bosch system allows multiple batteries and one reason I got the step over frame is for the place to mount a second...

Specialized Vado 4 vs Gazelle Ultimate 380+ (long)

I just checked the current model comes with the Kiox computer standard. more features I don't want. In particular a magnetic mount to make it easy to steal.

Picking an eBike: Gazelle Vs. Specialized

I upgraded from a Vado 4 to a 380+ and still very happy with the Gazelle after 2000 miles. I wrote up a detailed comparison last year https://electricbikereview.com/forums/threads/specialized-vado-4-vs-gazelle-ultimate-380-long.49738/

Specialized Vado 4 vs Gazelle Ultimate 380+ (long)

Awesome. About 2000 miles so far and I adjusted the belt twice and occasionally add air to the tires. That's it for maintenance. I use it almost every day for a ten mile commute. Still the same comparisons. The battery is annoying to get back on the bike but not as bad as the Vado. And...

What's your opinion on the "Idaho Stop" law?

Interesting so there is no requirement to move the right if you can?

What's your opinion on the "Idaho Stop" law?

Exactly. On busy intersections it wouldn't change anything. Do you live in a IS state? I find on my commute there is one light where I cross the T with a wide safe margin I don't stop and another 4 way intersection that is usually busy I always stop and wait.

What's your opinion on the "Idaho Stop" law?

Of course. And that's the whole point. If there's lots of traffic you don't have the right of way and nothing changes from the current situation. But if it is safe to proceed you can make that choice for yourself as you say you do now in defiance of the law.

    Vado 4.0 vs 5.0

I had a Vado 4 as my first E-bike and loved it. Loved it so much I wanted to upgrade to an IGH and a belt last year. Unfortunately the 4 last year didn't have a belt option so it was the lower bike (a 3 or the Como?) or the Vado 5 as options. The 5 was nice but quite expensive. The main...

What's your opinion on the "Idaho Stop" law?

That's the whole point of the IS laws for me as it gives more freedom to the cyclist to be responsible for their own safety. Most accidents are at intersections and if you can safely get through them before the cars it is a win for everyone.

What's your opinion on the "Idaho Stop" law?

that is a common reply but meaningless. the laws are for those that will obey them. so disregarding people who disregard the law, I am more interested here in the laws and the people who follow them. there will always be those that ignore the law.

What's your opinion on the "Idaho Stop" law?

The Idaho Stop law was enacted in the 80's and allows cyclists to treat a red light as a stop sign and a stop sign as a yield. About a dozen states have enacted one or both of these. I am working to enact it here in New Hampshire and I am curious about your opinion for or against it. Also any...

Do you regret buying (or not buying) Step-thru vs. Step-over frame?

I don't think these days it is "women's" bike stigma for men to ride a step thru any more. I might have got the step thru when I got my Gazelle but 1) only the step over had room for a second battery if i want to add that later and 2) my LBS only had the step over in my size.

    Specialized Vado 4.0 - Beware

How often do you ride in turbo? And how often are you using the 10t? FOr me commuting to work every day the answer was almost always.

It might be the last bike commuting day for the season...

Yes the device is a wax 3d printer for (mostly) making jewelry. The drawings are for the Scuttler project I did with a friend at at work and others. The front legs are supposed to have feet around the front wheels and "walk" through the mud. It is driven and steered from a rear fat tire...

It might be the last bike commuting day for the season...

Each mark is one day this season biking to work, about 10 miles round trip plus noon lunch runs or errands. Tomorrow is in the teens in the morning so we'll see how motivated I feel in the morning...
