    Road weenie karma

I usually try to stay away from such generalizations. I get it. I really do. And it's probably more of a local thing. But I ride a lot. I'm out there most days. And that's what I've gathered from 12 years of riding in Colorado - most road weenies are dicks. And the force multiplies when...

    Cannabis, how is it legalized?

It's funny that what's completely normal and legal in one state can put you in prison in another. I live in Colorado and we've had legal weed for 11 years now. As of last week or so, we had sold $15 billion in recreational weed. It's taxed on several levels, and distributed all over...

Do You Wear a Wristwatch When You Ride?

Usually ride with a Samsung watch. I don't track rides much anymore, but it gives me text, Webex and phone call info without looking at my phone - which is never easily accessible. It also lets me know when it's time to re-up on the sunscreen.

    Tubeless tire experiences

Amen to this here. I got my first flat on tubeless in close to 5 years of using them today, and it was because I failed to keep an eye on the sealant level. The fix was - remove stick, add sealant, spin wheel, inflate, ride off. Tubes drool

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

About as far west as you can go from Frisco, CO and stay on bike path. This is quite a way up the south side of Copper Mt + probably holds enough snow to ski a little later. Err, probably too much. It's steep on a bike, but would be boring on skis. Looking back toward Frisco. This is one...

    Road weenie karma

So I was riding home from work today and experienced my first flat on a tubeless setup. Once I noticed the rear getting squishy, I found a good spot to stop and quickly found a 2-3 mm stick between the center tread and sidewall. That's right - a stick. That's a first. Once I pulled it out...

Not asking, just making a point.

Life's too short to ride cheap bikes :)

    Tubeless tire experiences

Just get off the fence & try it. I'll never go back to tubes. I won't bother getting too deep into the whys as that's been pretty well covered here and all over the www, but they just work exceptionally well. Flats are a thing of the past and maintenance is super quick with a syringe & valve...

    Alternative rack for Allant+ 8

Why not just get a rack from a 7 and put it on the 8? That rack on the 8,9 makes no sense to me - can't put anything on top.

    anybody have riding videos?

Was uploading stuff to Youtube 'till they cut me off for using ad blockers. Can still upload, but no more streaming without turning ad blockers off. Not going to keep giving them free content if they won't let me watch videos.

questions to people that are commuting

In my 1st year of ebike commutes I logged about 3,000 miles & replaced a chain and tires. OEM chain was not an ebike chain, so only lasted 1,000 miles or so. Ebike chain has not worn enough to show up on the stretch-o-meter yet. Tires were not made for this, so I switched to IRC Boken Plus -...

    Do I need an eMTB?

I'd start with an analog hardtail first - especially if the goal is to shed some pounds while exploring. You can get a nice starter bike for a grand, where good eMTBs are gonna be tough on that budget. You'll also need a few basic tools and some way to carry them, helmet, gloves, possibly some...

I've had more issues with XT and SLX mechs on analog bikes than the Alivio on an ebike. Moral of the story is - higher in the price range doesn't make it more reliable. You just get more features, lower weight, and a higher pricetag. Some higher end gear is actually weaker than the cheaper...

Data? Lol. Go find someone who's lab-testing these - which is probably nobody. I stand by my statements though. I own everything from XTR down and the Alivio has been amazing over 3,000 miles. And I did not expect it to be. I also ride in the mountains. And yeah, poor setup will tear up...

This is a drivetrain issue. Trek does not make drivetrains. Get with a good mechanic - they should be able to figure it out.

Yeah, the Alivio stuff is great. It's not the latest tech with 12 speeds, a clutch, and extra do-dads, but it does what it does very well. Any setup will shift poorly if it's not properly set-up (or damaged), and whoever assembles these bikes is not very good at it. Has it been tuned by an...

The drivetrain components on the Allant are fine. Generally you're sacrificing weight and bells/whistles in the lower end Shimano stuff - not quality. Either you have a bent hanger, mech is bent, or it is not set up properly. My money is on the latter, but there is likely damage/wear at this...
