Specialized Turbo Vado/Como/Tero/Tero X User Club

I posted in amidst a hot/heavy string of fix-it tutorials that seemed out of place in a brag thread. Useful in an other thread. Of limited utility here.

Vado & Como Spare/Replacement Battery Price Increase

US Price seems to be $999. I think Specialized wants you to buy through the LBS.

Electric bike sales have skyrocketed during the coronavirus lockdown

Roads are relatively empty. People are holed up in homes, eating more than they probably need to. So they want to get out. Weather’s getting nice in the northern hemisphere. I had a substantial summer trip planned and will be getting substantial refunds. Put it all together and I’m eyeing a...

    How wrong am I?

I've pored over many a review and watched many review videos. And I'm sure I'm being somewhat influenced by Court, as empty of a slate as I am. But it's funny to watch his review of the Vado 4.0 and literally running out of breath praising the though-out design and features. I have misgivings...

    How wrong am I?

Now leaning heavily toward the Vado 4.0 "Step Through" (mid-step, honestly). I blame the forum!

    The right sized Vado?

Large and Step Through is what I’m planning on. Let’s be honest though (even if Specialized is not): the Vado Step Through is really a mid-step. Specialized says the Large is for people up to 6’1” and the XL is for people 6’1” and taller. So being 6’1”, I was unsure which way to go. But it...

Did they extend the double rebate?

You and me both, brother. Water under the bridge. Short of building a time machine or holding our breath until the next sale, we have the option of sucking it up and paying the freight or going without.

    The right sized Vado?

Got a message from the LBS: they say the XL is for people 6’2” or taller. Seems like a small market, but... Seems like the L is what I want to go with.

Which frame lock mounts to the Specialized Turbo factory mounts?

It's almost as if the Vado's frame lock bosses are useless!

You can upshift by also pushing the front lever with your thumb!

Court always points this out in his reviews and gives some love to any model that has the two-way upshifting.

    The right sized Vado?

I'm on the bubble between a Large and Extra Large frame size per Specialized size chart. I'm 6'1" (185cm). But I'm tall in the torso (32" inseam). The smart thing to do would be to go to the LBS and test drive both. But the LBSs don't seem to have Vados of any kind anywhere near their showroom...

    Como vs Vado- HELP!

    1. Did we ever get that pic? [ETA: looks like we did, but my browser was hiding it with "There are more posts to display. View them?"] 2. Wait time from order to delivery?

Which frame lock mounts to the Specialized Turbo factory mounts?

So... are the frame lock bosses on 2020 Vados for decorative purposes only. And Abus key-to-like a pipe dream as yet unignited?

    Shopping at LBS during lockdown

I'm on the bubble between a Large and an Extra Large Turbo Vado 4.0. How to decide which is the better fit? Ah! I'll jump over to the LBS and take each one for a spin! No problem. 😂 Maybe in November. Accessories and maintenance? Less of a problem in the moment. Sizing and comparing new models...

    Shopping at LBS during lockdown

When casting about for a first time eBike purchase with a bit of hesitation and uncertainty, folks on the forum tend to do what we all tend to do on fora, which is to recommend “do what I did”. And what they did was to drop in to their LBS and test drive a few models to feel them out. And...

    How wrong am I?

Issues of dissatisfaction tend to be magnified in fora and online reviews. But this was a candid insight coming from an actual LBS dealer. He tempered it with praise for Specialized’s technical support, though.

    How wrong am I?

The Vado is a sexy beast, and I’ll dive into it to be sure. The Brose motor noise issue is raised by an actual dealer (Court’s friend, Charlie in DC) at about the 13:00 mark on the Como 4.0 review.

    How wrong am I?

Good point. I’m fairly relaxed at $3000. I can go higher, but I’ll certainly need to fall in love.
