Neither love nor money can get you this Vado?

My city has a bike co-op, too. Closed for the pandemic, as are some of the LBSs in town.

Neither love nor money can get you this Vado?

My aversion to all the dark colors that so many manufacturers are fond of (black, navy blue, dark red, etc.) is that I’m not looking to go stealth in an era of distracted drivers. I want to be seen when I’m sharing the road with newly-licensed teenage text-addicts. The sell-out of white and...

Neither love nor money can get you this Vado?

With their run of Vados essentially gone by the beginning of May, there will be none for shops to sell through the spring and summer. Color me an ugly American capitalist, but that strikes me as leaving a fortune of money on the table. The upside of not needing to deeply discount any 2020s when...

I wouldn’t be here if not for COVID, either. Snake eats tail. I was slower to settle on a conclusion. Paying the price.

Neither love nor money can get you this Vado?

So I did my research and settled on a Turbo Vado 4.0 L ST Dove Grey. LBS indicates ... no dice. "Sold Out!" The LBS doesn't carry Vado's at all, but is a Specialized dealer who can order bikes. But after entering the details into the computer, he tells me he can order the dark red. I assure...

I was looking at the Verve+ 3 and still think it’s got a lot to like. I’m now leaning hard toward the Vado 4.0. Take a look at the EBR review of the Vado 4.0: there’s even more to like.

I said it would hard to resist that urge. But giving in to it is not productive. Begin with the presumption that the data is objective. If you think the statistical validity could benefit from a larger N, you can probably help with that. But don’t begin with the presumption that if Specialized...

Spring 2020 Ebike Reliability Survey Results

On the other hand, doth hell have any fury like the buyer of a high end model that fails repeatedly and requires significant time in the shop? On the other other hand, Range Rover owners.

I appreciate the effort being made to collect and publish objective data. The N was over 500, with about 20-30 responses for each make. I’m still keen to get a Vado soon, but refuse to second-guess the study in hopes of making Specialized seem better than the data would indicate. I accept the...

What's our wisdom on this? It looks like Specialized has some work to do here. Experience tells me there will be a strong urge to shoot the messenger. I hope we can do better than that, as enlightened as we are...

Specialized Turbo Vado/Como/Tero/Tero X User Club

@Stefan Mikes did not cast the hood-wearing as funny, he wondered if the Bubba in the photo might have considered it funny. So slow down, peddlers, there is no fight to be seen here.

Specialized Turbo Vado/Como/Tero/Tero X User Club

If you think, here in 2020, that wearing a KKK hood in a supermarket is funny, you have cast yourself as a sociopath who is likely in need of custodial care.

As long as you don’t filter out results on the basis of “that result doesn’t conform to my expectation, so the data must be wrong.”

Spring 2020 Ebike Reliability Survey Results

Objective data can be surprising where subjectivity has been the sole ruler. That only speaks to the value of collecting it, and then collecting more of it.

Spring 2020 Ebike Reliability Survey Results

Keep up the good work; objective data is scarce in this field. It's not always appreciated by everyone—especially when it runs counter to their strongly-held personal opinions. Some folks prefer that their opinions and anecdotal experiences go unchallenged. But it is appreciated by this of us...

I promise I looked. But I didn't see the total number of surveys, and a breakdown of surveys / brand. Do I need more coffee?

Electric bike sales have skyrocketed during the coronavirus lockdown

Here in Sacramento: Sacramento Bicycle Kitchen is closed until further notice and Carmichael Bike Shop is also closed “temporarily”. Seems they misjudged the imminent/current bonanza.
