Voltbike Nitro; Is this good daily commuter? Any feedback from Specs?

80-pound commuter with 20" tires.... Sounds more like an e-scooter than e-bike. Standard Bafang 500, lower-tier derallieur Tourney. At least, the battery is huge.

How hard is it to change rear wheel with Hubdrive?

Labor costs vary between the stores and towns. Here is one price-list: https://www.trekbikesmississauga.com/articles/labor-rates-pg177.htm. Expect from $15 to $30 labor for rear tire. This one has $80/hr labor, there are community-type stores with lower labor costs. If you have ever replaced a...

    Ride1up vs Espin

About battery hump... Ride1up 500 is similar to many other in this respect. Aventon Pace 500 comes to mind. But this is not nearly as bad as in Radmission where it almost looks like DIY when somebody just slapped a battery on a non-powered bike. No offense, but RAD should really work on the...

Long term ownership: a general survey

This won't be productive. There are few top brands and then there are dozens online retailers of much lower quality but some of them sell bikes in huge numbers (their revenues are still lower because bikes are cheaper).

    Problems with new Level

... and all this was because of one damaged spoke. On the non-powered wheel, at that. I wonder how much it would take to get LBS fix it - without explaining anything. Probably half an hour time and $30 in parts and labor. It's just a regular bicycle wheel.

The elusive $1k quality E-bike... Coming this year?

Don't hold your breath, mamarachis are not coming yet - not to the US market. They've been making mamarachi for years but not for the US. Apples to apples, there is not much price difference from commuters. On a brief glance at Bridgestone line of mamarachi several months ago I remember...

Pace500 Step Through - Frame size recommendation?

On this picture a 5'2" person has ~6-7" of post extended on the small frame. If she installs seatpost suspension for added comfort (many people do), there will be only 2-3" of the post showing. Medium frame is 3" larger so she would either have the post fully inserted or would be sitting 1"...

Any good deals on ebike using Aliexpress?

Doesn't mean that RAD didn't design their bikes, does it? But then, the very concept of design process in ebike industry is funny. US or European company engineers go to China, look what frames are available (there are many to choose from), what motor they would like to put in, what...

Any good deals on ebike using Aliexpress?

Don't know about Voltbike but RAD does not "import from china and sell as their brand". They are the brand, designing their bikes. Manufacturing is done in China. Vast majority of ebikes, even expensive brands, are made in China or assembled from parts made in China.

Misleading used battery % on display for ebikes !!

Yes, but this graph is for a single cell, it doesn't consider balancing.

Misleading used battery % on display for ebikes !!

Charging only to 80% will not (most likely) achieve the balancing. You could charge it to 70-80% right after the trip and then to 95-100% just before the trip - if this 2nd trip is next day. If there going to be a 7-8 days (or longer) gap between the trips, it's better to leave it not fully...

    Homemade ebike lights

STVZO-compliant light illuminates the road surface without blinding the others: http://www.light-test.info/en/faq-en/169-stvzo-bike-lamps-regulations. They also tend to be more efficient per watt because the lumens are not wasted. Under 1500 lumen because you are not on the ship :). And - yes...

    Homemade ebike lights

I would stay under 20W and under 1,500 lumen. Preferably with STVZO unit that you wouldn't have to dim.

'E-Bike riders pose far lower risk than non-assisted riders, new data shows - Electrek

Have you looked at an average regular commuter pedaling down the street? Not on super-booper carbon frame. You could tell an ebike from regular by just looking at his back and legs. (And, - yes, I've ridden a regular bike many times).

'E-Bike riders pose far lower risk than non-assisted riders, new data shows - Electrek

On Ebike your thinking is clearer and reflexes are quicker because you're less exhausted. You're less distracted 'cause you're less focused on muscle work. Just stand on the sidewalk and look at ebikers and non-powered riders - ebiker goes smooth, non-powered is pumping, swaying left-right...

Misleading used battery % on display for ebikes !!

There is a technology but there is not much implementation in ebikes. There are 3 different quantities - SOC, diminished capacity (compared to new), and number of cycles. 1) SOC: Automotive and RV industry have been using what is called "battery monitor" for decades, to determine exact SOC by...

    Impressed with Juiced bikes but??????

There are always posts from disappointed customers. Many expect it to be like a toaster - it either works or doesn't. Ebike is more complicated and with online retailers you need to be ready to do your own troubleshooting, and not everybody is ready or willing. Remote troubleshooting is never...

    Impressed with Juiced bikes but??????

For most people it's electrical troubleshooting that is a problem. They need to learn how to use a multimeter and relationship between basic quantities - current, voltage, power, energy, and understand what each one means - not just memorize that W=A*V. Without this (very modest) knowledge...

This is a controller issue. if you replace only the power wheel, you could still have same problem.

    Motor quit

Amazon, Ebay, Aliexpress, Em3ev.com, Bmsbattery.com, Ebikes.ca, Luna. Take your pick. Ebay and Bmsbattery are the cheapest, probably from $100 per wheel, but don't expect it to be special. Em3ev and Ebikes.ca build better quality wheels and use better motors and cost more.
