    REAL bargains

After trying many different types of tires, I keep coming back to one specific model as the absolute best trade off between absolute performance and decent puncture resistance. For roadies, in my experience this provides the greatest “bang for the buck” performance upgrade, and the pricing on...

    REAL bargains

The silicone fusion tape was a great recommendation, thanks. MUCH better than electrical tape. I went with this one for $6 https://www.amazon.com/Rescue-Self-Fusing-Silicone-Rubber-Repair/dp/B0978PQJP1?th=1&psc=1

    Moving Away From Heavy E-Bikes

+1 Got 12k miles on my Juiced CCA, and now it’s gathering dust. Found lighter weight bikes that much more enjoyable and nimble. Hoping for the next gen of battery and motor technology. In the meantime, since I stick to paved roads and trails, finding that using very low rolling resistance...

    Moving Away From Heavy E-Bikes

Surprising thing is, I’ve found my knees to get stronger and bother me less, after switching to SS 😬

    Moving Away From Heavy E-Bikes

Haha, yeah riding an analog does feel a bit like riding in concrete. But you’d be surprised how much difference a really light analog (or electric) bike + very low rolling resistance tires make. For me, night and day difference. I tried switching to Continental Gatorskin tires for the flat...

    Moving Away From Heavy E-Bikes

Nope, mine is a simple rear hub 350w (500w peak) motor. If I ever need to replace it, a built up rear wheel with new motor from Ride1UP is only $375 I think. Gets the job done, and as mentioned 7000 troublefree miles so far.

    Moving Away From Heavy E-Bikes

I’ve always admired the design and technology of the Specialized bikes, but have been discouraged by the stories of motor and other failures. Maybe too complex and finicky? My relatively inexpensive SS ebike has a Shengyi motor, and has gone 7000 miles without a problem. And only real...

    Roadster V2 Gravel Edition

In that case, just saw the Ride1UP website has Roadster for $999 and Gravelster for $1145 on sale. You can keep the assist low or off, and use up little power (not that much more than to offset the weight of an e-bike). My only problem was keeping up with roadies for continuous 22-24 mph runs...

    Moving Away From Heavy E-Bikes

😉 and BTW, using the e-bike is also perfect for recovery day rides, which are really important so that you don’t overtrain - sometimes just as bad as undertraining.

    Moving Away From Heavy E-Bikes

Ironically, my lightweight SS e-bike (33 lbs before accessories) has helped me improve my fitness to the point that I could get an analog SS bike (17.5 lbs before accessories), and now I have my “dream” two bike combo. Two other bikes (geared e-bikes) sitting and gathering dust, the SS bikes...

    Roadster V2 Gravel Edition

If you’re trying to keep up with fast roadies with a SS, you may be out of luck, if they’re a fast group. With a SS, you are limited by your gearing, obviously. With the Roadster 64x20 you are spinning at about 100 RPM at 25 mph. I can keep up with the fast roadies up to that point, but when...

    Online E-Bikes - is it a scam?

Same answer as for everything you can buy online - there is good and bad out there, and it pays to do your research. I’ve had great “luck” with reasonably priced direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands, that actually have turned out to be great, reliable bikes. But I’m also comfortable with doing some...

Metric/Imperial Centuries? Poll, and your experience.

I can only dream of doing this one, and will only read about it. Testing the limits of human endurance 🤯 https://www.leadvilleraceseries.com/mtb/leadvilletrail100mtb/ “This is it, the granddaddy of all endurance MTB races. Get ready for a big day in the saddle. The 104-mile out-and-back course...

    Roadster V2 Gravel Edition

Depends on how strong you are. With the Roadster (which has taller gearing than the Gravelster) I’ve found it possible to do long motor off climbs up to about 4-5% grade okay with moderate effort. Have also done motor off shorter climbs up to about 12% with maximum effort. Have had to use full...

Metric/Imperial Centuries? Poll, and your experience.

For comparison, did a metric century with my SS e-bike, and found out something that should have been obvious to me, but was an interesting finding. Lowering max speed of assist makes a big range difference. Btw, felt very similar to my analog SS, when doing the below, except for the boost up...

Easiest Rolling Tire For My Vado 3.0

Depends on your intended road conditions, but going to smoother tires can make a big difference in reducing your rolling resistance (making pedaling easier). My favorite site for tire comparisons, and an example of a possible better option for you is...

LeMond Dutch e-bike: battery range and tires

I was really tempted by the Lemond Prolog, really beautiful bikes, almost artwork, but I went in a different direction. You may be asking too much of the bike and range estimates, since it will vary so much depending on your fitness level, weight, how much assist you use, if you have a lot of...

Metric/Imperial Centuries? Poll, and your experience.

Thanks! Got it built with 48t front x 17t rear cog freewheel. 60 miles 3300 ft elevation gain 14.0 mph average 39.9 mph max speed Average cadence 57 rpm Max cadence 132 rpm Finding that for more distance, climbing and more severe grades, I’ll probably need a more forgiving gear ratio. Ordered...

Metric/Imperial Centuries? Poll, and your experience.

After getting scratched up and beaten up doing trail rides (and my mates doing the same), gave up and got rid of the mtb. Road now only, but the gravel bike craze/culture I have to admit is intriguing. But similarly, like the single-speed world too. After riding a SS e-bike, recently got an...

LeMond Dutch e-bike: battery range and tires

Though I can’t speak to the Lemond and Mahle, if it’s similar to the aftermarket EggRider display/controller I use with my Ride1UP Roadster, it adjusts and updates the estimated range AFTER you’ve been riding. What I mean by that is, based on my power consumption and miles ridden, it...
