Winter Is Coming - Biking in Cold Weather

Our leaves get shoved aside with the first snow plowing, but the plowing is never perfect - lots of ice patches (from compressed snow) get left behind, so it's sand or ice... I rather envy the folks in flatter places like Minneapolis and Chicago, at least for winter riding. OTOH, outside...

Winter Is Coming - Biking in Cold Weather

Where I live every ride involves some steep hills, paved or gravel. The paved ones get sand covered early in the season, after the first bit of snow or ice, and stay that way until spring. Riding on sand over asphalt going down a steep hill is NOT my cup of tea - too likely to skid (did I...

Upgrading Gazell 380+ to Nyon, looking for solution feeding wires with plugs through small hole on the headset tube

You can add new screens, customize existing and delete existing. It's actually easy and rather fun to do, to experiment. Personally, my favorite screen shows HR, elevation, distance climbed, personal power output (can't do motor power anyway, just the ratio of personal to motor). Speed and...

Buying first electric bike for woman, hilly area... help please

I want to emphasize again that there's no substitute for a test ride for a newbie. Renting is one way to get your feet wet, so to speak. Since the OP is an experienced bike rider, she will probably like a bike with a torque sensor best, given the more natural peddling experience, but again...

Buying first electric bike for woman, hilly area... help please

Yes, her needs were. So what do you recommend? Do you really want to re-hash the hundreds of responses to similar requests over the past year? Then go to it...

    Replacing chain ring

If you use the latest Park chain cleaner, no need to back pedal. It works in either direction by moving the handle. At least mine does.

Buying first electric bike for woman, hilly area... help please

there has been many threads about choosing bikes in the past few months. Have you read any of them? You have a variety of decisions to make, including cost, mid vs hub drive and frame fit. The last item you can only address by test rides.

Upgrading Gazell 380+ to Nyon, looking for solution feeding wires with plugs through small hole on the headset tube

You can often make threading the new cable easier by taping an end to the old cable, then using the old cable as a "pull"... same idea works for shifter and brake cables in getting them through the frame.

Control Nyon 2 map zoom with buttons?

I wish...seems like no way though, even though it's so obvious. And oddly, you can do it with cobi.bike.

Newbie - Looking at Trek bikes: Vale go! 9D vs Allant+7S Stagger

Guess you don't read the discussions started by folks wanting to go faster and faster? :) I agree though, that for leisure riding in a city, hopefully speed is not the top objective.

My 1000w motor journey and fear mongering by users of the forum!

Only by people who don't know what they're talking about... ...and, hmmm, you didn't by chance make this "up on the spot" did you?

Newbie - Looking at Trek bikes: Vale go! 9D vs Allant+7S Stagger

Maybe. We don't normally think of step through vs others as a "fit" issue, but if you can't get your fit through the stagger frame, I guess it doesn't matter. The Vale's motor is a lower torque motor, and the bike isn't quite as refined as the Allant+, but it's a lot cheaper. For city...

    Bosch Nyon 2 Problems

I've never seen a "goodbye" on mine. When I finish a ride, I just remove it from the mount. Sometimes I need to turn it on again to have it finish my ride in ebikeconnect. I just turn it on again, let it synch again, then either hit the power button for a second (hibernate or off? who...

PatriciaK's Italian ebike tour adventure 🇮🇹🚴🇮🇹

I agree. They're especially great for those of us whose health conditions mean they'll never be able to do such a trip...at least we can enjoy the experiences of others.

My ebike journey and the holy grail (for me)

Thanks for the comments! Interesting that they don't have a rear brake as standard? And drum brakes on the front? Wonder what brake shoe life is like? And wonder how hard replacement is? From where I live, according to the website, there are three dealers within a 2 hour drive. Time to go...

My ebike journey and the holy grail (for me)

How do you transport a trike? I presume not on a regular bike rack... The Great Allegheny Passage, from Pitt to DC should be a great trail. There's a good website for it. https://gaptrail.org/ A great feature is that Amtrak runs between Pitt and DC, and allows bikes (don't know about...
