Weirdly, I always felt safer riding a bike during my time in China than I do in America. Though traffic was nuts and driving terrified me, the drivers where acclimated to bikes. Certainly can't speak for Ethiopia though. ...This would probably give me a heart attack.

Hey @suigeneris, Bionx is the best conversion kit. @JoePah likes ebike kit. I've been impressed with the power of those kits and they're very cheap. I see some obstacles. The roller brakes in the rear aren't hub motor compatible and I'm betting you have internal shifters, which is an issue...

Killer tires. Evo cross isn't arriving here till next week so can't give you a definitive answer. It would be really close to the bottom chain stay on the old Cross. These look like the Conti Cyclocross tire trends, so those would work at a 38. Schwalbe Mondials are a popular for this setup too.
