Everything is out to kill us

Well, I got a new job and not practical to bike commute everyday. In memory of this sad moment, I created a montage of my experiences in riding to work over a 12 month period. To the drivers who apologized, you are not in this collection. It is a little long, some more interesting than most...

Survey for those with higher mileage (2000+) ebikes

Haibike Trekking S RX speed pedelec. Just crossed 4,000 miles. Only the usual pads, sprockets and chains. I have significant hills on my commute so while I look after the bike, it is not "gently used". I think the rear tire will need replacing at 5,000 miles.

Bam Power being sued by Rad Power

Could it be the Chinese vendor RAD is getting the bikes from is selling them to another company too?

How many miles to expect – Bosch Performance line

Just passed 4,000 miles. No funny noises coming from the motor. Mostly commuting on some severe hills and often "going for it" in Turbo mode. Only complaint is the chain and sprockets are lasting around 1,500 miles. I am sure if you were on the flat and Eco mode, they would last a lot longer.

Sealer for tire flats-Green Slime, Flat Attack, Zefal or Fix A Flat for Bikes?

I have the Schwalbe Energizer Pro, 700 x 38c on my Haibike Xduro SRX Trekking with 3,723 miles riding in Seattle bike lanes full of debris. I have to say I am quite impressed with the "Green Guard" lining for extra puncture protection. I have had two punctures, both with in two weeks of each...

    Consdering Trek Crossrip plus

You can. My round trip to work is 18.9 miles. I have the 400 Power Pack and Performance Line (27.5 mph) motor. It cuts out at 28 mph, so in my mind it is not a 28 mph assist because it provides no assist at 28 mph. OK, back on topic. My total elevation change on the work round trip according to...

"E-bikes to face speed limits on popular Seattle trails"

So there is some contradictory text in Washington Sate SB 6434. It states: "Class 3 electric-assisted bicycles may be operated on facilities that are within or adjacent to a highway." Since the Burke-Gilman trail in Kenmore is adjacent to SR 522, that would suggest I am allowed on there with...

Report of my first 2000 miles on my ebike

Congrats. Agree with all your points! I'm at 3,475 miles (screen shot attached from cobi-bike controller for my Haibike (Bosch Performance Line) Trekking R SX. No issues with the motor or electrics. Rode through plenty of rain storms. Maintenance items so far carried out by my local e-bike...

Actually, ebikes will get you much LESS exercise

Before I got my e-bike, I would ride to work once or twice a week, due to the brutal hills. Now I ride every day and never dread the ride. If I am feeling energetic, the bike stays between ECO and TOUR assist. Having a rough morning or day, TURBO assist is their if need to make the ride...

    Peripheral Neuropathy and Ebiking

Indeed, when I went to pick up my bike, I got them to change out the grips for Ergon1 grips with the flat spot. These are also locking grips, meaning they do not rotate under force. If you have not done so, take a look at a handle bar which is swept back or a riser which you can bring the bars...

    Peripheral Neuropathy and Ebiking

Great info, it's what this forum is for - the sharing of information. I don't have a drop foot at this time but I know it will happen sooner or later, it's part of the HNPP.

    Ebiking in Anacortes, WA

Cycle down to the terminal and take your bike on the ferry to Friday Harbor! Awesome place to cycle. If not, then go to Washington Park. Single one way road loop with awesome outlook places to stop by.

    Peripheral Neuropathy and Ebiking

I have HNPP (Hereditary Neuropathy with Liability to Pressure Palsy ). I'm lucky I do not have its cousin, CMT. My e-bike allows me to cycle without damaging the mylein sheath on my nerves...too much. It is a weird and rare condition (1 in 100,000) that has to be managed with no cure. Although...

"E-bikes to face speed limits on popular Seattle trails"

So you allow a 20 mph (Class 1 and 2) bike on the MUT with a 15 mph limit but not a 28 mph Class 3? I did fill out the survey. Luckily, there are no markings on my bike that indicate Class 3 and since I ride around 15 mph, slower in heavier pedestrian areas, I am not concerned. Enforced by the...

How much has your ebike replaced your car?

My bike was bought for commuting, a 20 mile round trip each day with an elevation gain of 817 ft. on the way to work and 1189 ft. on the way back. Yep, hilly and hence the e-bike. I have not driven to work since mid April - it is now almost end of August. According to Strava, with occasional...

Riding your class 3 on the sidewalk? In the bike lane?

Spot on. I prefer the road too, but 228th in Bothell, WA up hill is way to dangerous on the road. I cycle on the path. Police have passed me, none have stopped or gestured to get off the bike.

Is The Law going to ruin this too??

I'm in Washington State and yes, my Class 3 bike (Just legislated here based on California) is not allowed on a shared path. BUT, I cycle at around 15 mph (posted speed limit) and slow down when coming up on people. I ring my bell when coming up on people on the path and not shy in shouting "on...

    Insurance?

I'm in Washington State. My house and car insurance is through State Farm. My house insurance does not cover the bike because it has a motor. When I called several insurance companies, that was a common thing, so be sure to ask the right question. If you ask about bike coverage without telling...
