    Aventon step through commuter charger!

Sorry, good questions, but I have no definitive answers. That recommendation's a good start, but the owner's proper role in battery management is more complicated than that and doesn't end there. Read every word about the battery in your bike's documentation and follow the recommendations there...

Class three bike with speed restriction feature?

Depends on what you use the throttle for. On my 70 lb, 500W, 65 Nm torque-sensing hub-drive commuter, it was mainly to keep my old knees out of the high-torque, low-cadence situations they so despise, pedaling all the while. Once back up to a knee-tolerated cadence (60-70 rpm), off the...

Bike jobs that took WAY longer than you ever imagined

It's happened to all of us: A bike mod or repair that should've taken 5 minutes but still has you tearing your hair out 30 minutes later. Share your most exasperating examples here. I'll start with yesterday's attempt to shorten my wife's kickstand. Never worked with one quite like it, but...

Hilarious! My dog's a fine connoisseur of flies. How she catches them is beyond me. But just to be sure everyone knows... Dogs should NEVER eat real raisins or grapes. Serious risk of renal failure. https://www.petmd.com/dog/emergency/digestive/e_dg_grape_raisin_toxicity

If I had a good slo-mo camera and enough balloons, I'd do this all day everyday — just for fun... Well, between rides anyway.

New sighting at L'atelier de Paris, a tasty little French bistro on the way to Coast Highway rides: A convertible Mini for their catering business? I get the sentiment behind that bumper slogan, but seems like a terrible waste of Belgian chocolate to me. Like @Stefan Mikes , I mix cycling...

Vado SL 2 Carbon LTD premiered today!

Also a smart choice for unmotorized roadies with the goal of riding long and fast. Per Wilson & Scmidt, 2020, Bicycling Science, 4th ed., baggy clothing adds significantly to your drag area (CdA), which is proportional to air resistance and aerodynamic power loss at all airspeeds. On a 50 mi...

    ES-Bus 1T4 Cable

I think it's smart to go to a thumb throttle. But not all throttles are created equally. If your bike supports it, make sure you get a progressive throttle that allows you to dole out less than full power as desired. As you may or may not know, there's an easy and reliable way to gain fine...

Visualizing and exploring the power-sensing PAS in Specialized mid-drives — an interactive graphical model

Here's a 3D version of the interactive graph using all the same symbols and equations as the 2D version in the original post. https://www.desmos.com/3d/v8eh48y88j The 2D version plotted rider power Pr on the horizontal x-axis and total power at the crank Pt on the vertical y-axis. In the 3D...

The ebike gods have smiled on me — the water heater gods, yes and no.

Sounds like a close call! After the water heater installers left today, I reconfigured my charging station to keep all electricals involved off the garage floor at all times. The station and all 3 ebikes will still live 4-12 ft from the new gas-fired tankless water heater (which has only a...

    Thanks Jeremy McCreary

    Sorry to hear they got to your wood stove. Didn't you get a new bike recently? Maybe that's their MO — leave you on Cloud 9 with a new ride and then take out a pricey home appliance to remind you who's boss. ;^}

Nothing like a crotch fire to get your attention! What kind of ebike or motorcycle is that? Not convinced that's a battery fire.

Class three bike with speed restriction feature?

My 70 lb 500W Surface 604 torque-sensing hub-drive commuter with throttle came with a 20-mph pedal assist cut-off, but my dealer gave me a 4-digit code to use the display to set it anyway I want up to 35 mph. The 20-mph throttle cut-off's not adjustable. I also get the need for speed from time...

Very cool solution! You know you're pretty far gone as a bike nut when you enjoy just watching people work on them — especially someone as skilled as this guy.

    I have stroke

All good but one thing: Stopping 308 lb at 20 mph with 2 bike brakes isn't a small ask — especially downhill. Whatever you do, work up to that speed slowly, testing carefully at every step.
