Anyone have experience with the Grin all axle or GMAC motors?

You'll probably find a few around here but I'd also suggest posting on https://endless-sphere.com/forums/ There you'll find much broader and deeper experience with Grin's products.

Are you going to ride in snow?

Yes, and that's actually easy to understand (if you think like the city) ... Falling off and a possible injury from "snow on the path" or other obstruction = your fault. But a fallen road sign could lead to the city being possibly/partially responsible in the event of an accident.

Are you going to ride in snow?

Nice today (-5C) but the high tomorrow is -15C. Below average snow so far this winter, just over 40cm total and less than 20cm accumulated snow depth (what's on the ground). Despite that (and possibly because of it) I still have to fight with the city about how often the city wide MUPs are...

    Charger question - feedback

I'm not sure I understand the point of your post. This thread's topic is experiences with the extra features with some commercial battery chargers. Gionnrocket offered an alternative example of those features with a less expensive DIY version. Your sum total contribution appears to be to snipe...

    Charger question - feedback

Who says it has to cost hundreds? You can spend 10s of dollars and monitor and manage the charging externally, do some inexpensive DIY and make the monitoring automatic, choose a commercial product with fixed voltages with those features for $100 USD, or you can spend 100s for extra flexibility...

    Battery question about cold temps

Condensation issues are not usually present when you are riding, it usually only becomes a problem when you bring a cold battery back into a warmer moister environment (your house). To get technical you won't get condensation forming when the dew point is below the ambient temperature (which is...

‘I felt powerless – so I started filming’

I hope you enjoy walking. This guy is well known to the police but I assume like all of us he isn't squeaky clean in his riding. His popularity would however be a big problem (less success in citations or prosecutions) if he was also a habitually bad rider. He also doesn't normally directly...

Hydraulic Brake Fluids (A Relaxed Talk)

15+ years of riding with hydraulic disc brakes, Shimano and Tektro. Most of this time has been with the Shimano brakes, the Tektros work fine but require that I use a special fitting to add oil. Each year I top up the reservoir on the brake lever with mineral oil purchased from a local pharmacy...

    21700 battery cost vs 18650?

Grin Technologies (ebikes.ca) has been selling 21700 based batteries for a few years now. I've been using a 52v 14.5amp model ($750 USD now) for over a year. They've also been selling the same setup but in 10s configurations (36v - over $500 USD).

    Charger question - feedback

Another Luna Advanced charger owner here. 16 months of experience with a 52v 14.5amp 21700 based battery. Like Marty has mentioned above I also normally charge at 2amps to 80%, and then if I need the full capacity I set the charger to 100% and charge just before I ride. If I'm short on time I...

    Long Range E-Bikes ?

Meh, I wouldn't feel the need to be defensive. Your strategy works for you (and likely more than a few others). On the whole I find it interesting that even with an ebike the underlying desire for efficiency that is so prevalent in analog bikes is still there (just to lesser or greater degrees...

    Long Range E-Bikes ?

We seem to treat a broken spoke as a pretty big deal these days ... but it wasn't that long ago a broken spoke was a pretty typical (but not too common) fix, so much so that many custom built road frames and particularly those designed for touring came with standoffs to carry spare spokes. I...

    Long Range E-Bikes ?

Now Jo, your going to have to watch that curmudgeon attitude, folks are going to think that you're no fun at all ;). I just think that not everyone needs to carry everything but the kitchen sink when they ride. Over the past 30 years I've regularly ridden longer distances (100-160k) and while...

    Long Range E-Bikes ?

80 miles/130km with a flat bar bike? - Optimistically figure on needing 7whr/km (assuming your in reasonable shape, riding with some care, and being as efficient as you can be). That translates to at least 1200whr of battery (assume you won't/can't drain the battery below 20% due to built in...

A little guidance on the idea of touring around with a trailer ... https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIYexQ_fEZ3VIvFD4a8rrEA Pay close attention to his care in weight saving. Notice that most of his "on the road" examples are actually off road and on bike paths/trails. Take one of these on most...

    E-Bike Battery Guide

Tom, That's a good point. I should have said regulatory standards. Certainly any good quality battery manufacturer is already building to a set of standards (quality of welds, size of buss bars, shock resistant designs, "waterproofness", use of glues, etc.) The regulatory standards dictate the...

Largest e-bike company in the US, Rad Power Bikes, says it has to raise prices. Here’s why

I agree that this isn't the place for a battery specific discussion but I have a feeling (no proof, call it a semi educated hunch) that part of why RAD is raising prices are increased liability costs. These aren't specifically because of batteries but they're part of it. I suspect that many...
