A BBSHD Killer? Here comes the CYC Photon

Yeah, I added up the cost for my latest BBSHD build $520 Luna Bare Motor $30 stock crankarms (seem to work for me) $90 eggrider display (other displays are close in price) $16 stabilizer bar (Full suspension, I just prefer to use these) $145 Lekkie BlingRing 42t Total $809 Thanks for the link...

A BBSHD Killer? Here comes the CYC Photon

Funny you should mention that! This would be a great addition to my acoustic 2019 Santa Cruz Tallboy Carbon (motor wise) acoustic bike. I cant see any DIY battery mounts on the carbon frame that would stand up to the trails it would encounter so it would be a backpack battery (you can stick...

A BBSHD Killer? Here comes the CYC Photon

I am considering the photon as well although the last thing I need is another ebike. $850 USD price tag is pretty hard to swallow though especially for the power. My BBSHD is basically perfect for my needs and has stood up to all the abuse I have thrown at it, sure wish it had a torque sensor...

    Moving Away From Heavy E-Bikes

Interestingly on a pack that had a bad cell and required disposal, I disassembled it to individual cells and discharged each one with a small automotive light bulb. How did I know each cell was done?, you could hear the noise of the cell venting when the voltage got low enough

Most likely, the data being shown while sampled at 1Hz(by the app) is sampled at higher frequencies within the embedded firmware within the motor and then averaged according to some criteria (of which I have mentioned previously). That data (before being averaged) is what is considered RAW data...

Its pretty common knowledge in the RC industry that 18650 cells shouldnt be totally discharged in less that 1/2 hour due to their high internal resistance. I have used High Current RC Lipo packs for FPV drone flying and discharged them in a minute...they usually puff and dont work...

Are you actually trying to imply that all sampling in the world occurs at 1Hz. Thats an insane and completely false claim. I have worked in the embedded software industry for well over 35 years including avionics flight controls, measurement, test, simulation and most recently spacecraft...

I havnt looked into it much so Im definately not the expert on cell failure, especially when charging. That being said, I am concerned about failure that can occur due to shorted cells. For a parallel section, if a cell shorts, all the other cells dump their current into the shorted cell...

Sorry but that is not raw data at least in the engineering sense but interpolated data over time. Raw data would occur at something like 60Hz (or higher) meaning there would be thousands of values. Simple computer sampling theory. Most likely, it keeps track of voltage when not supplying...

You likely wont see the sag as your battery indicator (assuming bars) isnt showing you the actual voltage but some sort of 'summarized voltage' averaged over time although it might be using other data depending on algorithm.. You would need to see actual RAW voltage to see sag Good electronics...

Of course you dont stefanie, total wh per ride is not a function of the battery charge but of the amount of energy used during the ride. Thanks for clarifying the obvious  You do need to recharge the battery fully if you want to use the wh used to figure out how much battery you have...

How on earth did you come up with that conclusion? Im not the one validating myself with strava? or with 14k+ posts on EBR (including posting pics of myself everywhere). Stop projecting and get a life man!

I find total wh (per ride) used super useful. This of course only works if you have fully charged the battery and reset the wh used. Use whatever works for you, voltage is the simplest and most reliable. I hated it initially but understand it now.

So you asked for my stats 'as proof' and have now used those as some sort of comparison. I figured this would happen but decided to play along. What is you final analysis/conclusion? Its obvious you validate yourself by your strava stats and comparing yourself to others who 'dont measure up'...

My DIY builds: GMAC, BBSHD, 9C RH212, CYC Photon, ToSeven DM01

Spent the last couple of days doing the same ride on the RH212, BBSHD and GMAC. This would be the worst case for the 'gravel rides' I do as far as elevation gain per distance, My MTB rides are harder/steeper. Other gravel rides are longer with more overall elevation gain Basically 17.5...

Summary form Garmin Connect: 5020 miles last year, lots of home improvements and a nasty winter kept my riding down. I also didnt record about 30 rides (just didnt care to) so add about 700miles. 6722 miles the previous year I average 150watts per ride going up to 200 in the summer. I dont...

If you need strava to validate your ego, more power to you Pedaluma has shown his vastly superior experience to you thru simple/friendly/helpful posts. I have done the same on several DIY threads. Threads in which you are involved always turn into your 'strava chest beating'

Nothing wrong with using strava. I tend to use garmin connect to log all my rides (for my own reference), I upload to strava sometimes because strava does %slope calculations for my rides. Its when it is used as some sort of 'Im more credible because I use strava' that people have an issue...
