Bike Rack for Trek Verve+4S Lowstep

Agree with McCorby above — consider using a Bike Beam. My friend uses them on their step-through bikes on a Hollywood carrier. Otherwise, per a carrier, we carry my wife’s 4s and my two Allants very safely and securely for 2K miles cross country on our Kuat rack. Very quick loading and off...

    Cycling Classic Helmet Visor Brim

My wife and I (and several friends) have the Salamander Beak visor ($25 on Amazon) on several helmets and find it very helpful. Another option I will do on occasion is a baseball cap under the helmet if a rear shade brim is needed.

    Well-controlled tire pressure experiment

I am a fan of tubeless running on the low end of the recommended psi. BUT, after a catastrophic blowout I have learned the benefit of ebike rated sidewalls.

    Who's naked bike riding?

We have an annual naked bike ride in Madison WI that I have been able to elude each year and for evermore. Only the true believers ever know the date.

How do you all use your E-BIKES? Do you go out riding with friends or do you enjoy the experience on your own?

Riding solo and fast has been my preference for years while also riding with or leading groups. Most recently now I ride with my favorite partner: my bride of 53 years. She has always been a climber, now she also chooses the ride and often leads several sections of our rides. We average 16-20...

    Intentional Hit & Run

Premeditated killing has no mercy. That makes the threat become bigger than the killing itself. Here is a strange but true. Happened in my hometown last summer. A Flash News Reporter interviewed a cyclist, who while biking to work that morning, had been unexpectedly “clotheslined” by a nearly...

    Life Gone in an Instant

Thank you and absolutely, yes! We continue to ride 5-6 days per week between rain storms. My motto: Ride long, ride strong. No hill is too high; No road is too long; No wind is too strong. I am riding an ebike.

    Intentional Hit & Run

We will only ride wearing hi-vis outerwear. It is amazing how traffic stops for us when we come to an intersection. Be safe! Be seen!

Having trouble deciding between the Trek Verve+ 3, Allant+ 7, and Allant +7S

Kudos on your bike. I just love it when riders rant about their Allants. I have both a 7s and an 8s. (9.5K miles and 1.5K respectively) The 7s will always be my favorite of the two. My total investment on the 7s is >2x $ of what I have into the 8s so far.

    Trek allant + 7

Specific to the 7s and any bike with a Class 3 mid-drive, there is more torque slamming that rear sprocket than most riders realize. Especially if you really sync-up with the bike and ride it as hard and fast as you can (Which I do 90+% of the time when solo.) And I shift a lot. The cassette...

    Trek allant + 7

A skipping chain is a clear indication of a worn cassette. Especially the outer 2 sprockets. I have replaced the cassette on my 7s. several times. (Every couple thousand miles.) An inexpensive and satisfying fix. Easy problem solving. >9K miles on the 7s and still smiling every mile. Ride...

How to reverse the direction of motor rotation.

Just pedal backwards /s. Everything will go in reverse. Will the battery charge in reverse? Maybe that is the secret.

    Life Gone in an Instant

Yes, get that last ride in while you can. I was diagnosed with brain cancer on April Fools Day, but it wasn’t a fool’s joke. At most, 12-14 months left. Following neurosurgery and 1st round of radiation and chemo for the past 2 months my wife and I ride most every day logging ~450 miles so...

Smiles and waves from pedestrians we pass

I want to say “Like” but am dismayed with London’s fall. Maybe seeing Kate again will bring some sparkle back.

Smiles and waves from pedestrians we pass

Whether my wife and I are riding as a pair, or leading groups as we often do, we like doing a little extra to keep a positive relationship with the pedestrians we meet and pass. Almost all! Or at least 10 out of 11 passing encounters complete with the pedestrian(s) giving us a wave, a smile...

Total e-bike ban after a fatality in Key Biscayne, FLA

In the early 1970’s a Minneapolis City Councilperson’s wife was struck and killed by a bicyclist while walking around the newly completed and very popular pedestrian/multi-use asphalt pathways en circulating the Minneapolis lakes. Bicyclists were immediately banned on the path and diverted to...

How to Switch to Clipless Pedals

I have ridden >20k miles in flip flops on my ebikes. And I thrill riding through water puddles which is impractical to do with shoes and socks.

How to Switch to Clipless Pedals

My vote is for MTB pedals. Definitely clip-on for acoustic bikes. MTB because my feet slide on the pedals when I ride hard & fast. My riding shoes - always flip flops with tread on the bottoms so they grab the MTB pedals spikes.

Torque spec for rear wheel hub on Trek Allant

Welcome to the Forum. Good choice of bike. Yes, keep the rear axel snug and recheck. FYI, I ride both a 7s (9,5K miles) and an 8s (2K miles). Grand fun riding either. What attachments and/or mods have you done? I have done many.
