I think the emtb mode is only on the gen 4 CX motor, mine is the gen 4 speed so no emtb mode that i can see, but there does seem to be a bit more power with the update. Allant S would signify speed motor.

you might be right, the short vibration in the crank does not always happen, so is not consistent, but I dont fell any change in power or anything, that one is tougher, I think first get the hub changed out and see if the vibration issue remains.

I just got my Allant 9.9s and I have the same noise coming from the bike, only about 100 miles so far. Initially as speed increased without pedaling, the ratchet sound would oscillate. Then over the last 2 days I have a slight creak with pedaling, like the original sound clip in this thread...

One thing to consider is that the allant 7 and 8 are both 5mm quick release in the rear hub, this may limit options on hub upgrades in the future, especially shimano 12 speed.
