Getting on the Hydra band wagon

I'll just run with what comes standard - I'll give the 27.5 x 3's a whirl. Hopefully the .8 doesn't change the cushy-ness too much. I'm hoping the Tannus makes up in cush. When I was planning to go fat (26x4), definitely had the Mastadon picked out, I have that on my Farley and have zero...

Getting on the Hydra band wagon

It's not an option for the Hydra, but that sounds cool, I would if I could.

Getting on the Hydra band wagon

I'm editing my initial post to show how the build is updated. At this point, I'm thinking I should go with 27.5 and 29 wheelsets. I don't need to make it through fresh snow or deep mud, rollover-ease and cushy ride are my primary goals.

Getting on the Hydra band wagon

I'm currently on a Farley EX, Bontrager Hodag, Tubeless Ready, Inner Strength sidewalls, aramid bead, 27.5x3.80˝

Getting on the Hydra band wagon

I don't know. I decided to go with the 26x4 fats, to maximize cushion (my back is a mess). Your comment about 27.5 x 3 makes me curious, given that's close to how my non-ebike is setup. The AMA @pushkar provided frankly scared me away from unrestricted. I thought with 2300w I could still get...

    Hydra ! My Turn

Ahhh... got it. Similar issue here where I ride (when off trail), not mesquite thorns but low lying cacti with gnarly thorns. My tubeless setup handles them well, I often see where the sealant has performed its duty. I'm wondering if I can get the best of both worlds with tubeless Tannus...

    Hydra ! My Turn

@reed scott , as I'm hum/hawing about my build. Why did you decide to go with tubeless vs tannus and a small tube? My initial thinking was to go tubeless, but based on feedback in this forum I'm considering Tannus with a small tube.

Well, I believe you've talked me into another change! I'm glad I started this thread, really appreciate the guidance.

Getting on the Hydra band wagon

Is the Tannus and tube something Pushkar can help me with, or I need to figure it out separate?

Getting on the Hydra band wagon

Are you saying the Tannus + tube is more resilient than Tannus + no tube? Is tubless more of a mess/butt-pain? With the motor I'm less concerned about weight, and absolutely do not want to deal with flats or problems out on long rides.

    Can I run that tubeless?

Getting on the Hydra band wagon

And I guess I was confused thinking I could swap the 26 x 4.8 with either. So I'm just going with 26, and sticking with Moloko. I really do appreciate the feedback, let me know if you spot any other issues I should think twice about.

Getting on the Hydra band wagon

What's the issue? I was looking to run fat -or- 29 depending on the trip.

    What issues?

Getting on the Hydra band wagon

We have lots of single track and switchbacks, not sure how tight twisty. How does the Moloko prevent the wheel from turning as sharp? Is it awkward due to the greater back sweep?

Getting on the Hydra band wagon

Thanks for the feedback. I'm starting to look at the Surly Moloko, wondering if the different positions would give me more flexibility in positioning to keep my back from flaring up on long rides.

Getting on the Hydra band wagon

I'm excited, and would love feedback on the build I selected. The goal is to build the cushiest/floating bike possible for trails and 'hills' of Colorado. Did I get it right, or do I need to re-think any of these specs? Hydra × 1 Frame Size: L (5'11"-6'4") Color: Single Color (not black)...
