    Brake Pad Wear

Also PedalUma, organic pads DO need to be broken in to perform optimally.

    Brake Pad Wear

My last set of organic pads lasted over 1500 miles with zero issues. The OP’s pads lasting less than 200 miles is not typical at all. Bottomsup, did the shop give you your old pads back or at least let you inspect them?

    Brake Pad Wear

Lol, “demonstration purposes”! This is absolutely not true. Organic pads have their advantages and disadvantages, just as semi-metallic pads have their advantages and disadvantages.

    Unused Battery

Jacko, what issues are you having with your battery? Has it degraded to the point of being unusable? Do you run out of juice too soon? If not, I‘d not worry about it until you have to, and just enjoy your new bike! If it was well cared for, and only has 400 miles, I’d guess it still has around...

    Unused Battery

I’m sorry, but this doesn’t sound right. Shimano states 5% degradation per year. Mine is actually doing better at 5% in a little over a year and a half. From Shimano FAQ:

Why do the big bike brands (almost) never use hub motors?

Just wait until the snow and ice melts!

Why do the big bike brands (almost) never use hub motors?

Luckily, all us mid-drive weenies can fall back to hub drives when ours inevitably bite the dust. I hear that they never fail! 😜

Steps 6100 - significant motor resistance pedaling when off

They have contact info on their website. They are likely going to tell you the same thing. They’ll tell you that there should not be the significant motor resistance you describe and that you should take it to an authorized bike shop to have it checked out. There’s really not much else they can...

dborosev, what bike do you have?

Steps 6100 - significant motor resistance pedaling when off

I do the same! There’s no benefit riding with the motor/battery powered off versus having the assist level set to off. The display is not going to significantly drain the battery. The benefit of having the battery/motor powered on with the assist set to off is that you get speed on your display...

Steps 6100 - significant motor resistance pedaling when off

I don’t think this is an issue anymore. I believe Shimano addressed this with a recent software update. Try it. If it hasn’t been “fixed” you’ll get an error code. Doing so won’t hurt it either way. You can clear the error by cycling the power. You‘re correct that this is not a factor in the...

Steps 6100 - significant motor resistance pedaling when off

Motor resistance will not change if you’re pedaling with wheel off the ground or while riding. The motor will not electrically “feed back” when pedaling and does not have regen capability. Again, I recommend you have your lbs check it over.

Steps 6100 - significant motor resistance pedaling when off

I test rode a BMC Alpenchallenge Amp with the E-6100. There was no significant pedaling resistance from the motor when the assist was turned off. Was it harder to pedal than a 20 lb. analog bike? Yes, it weighs almost twice as much.

Steps 6100 - significant motor resistance pedaling when off

I’d have it checked out then. It definitely should not be “fighting” you.

Steps 6100 - significant motor resistance pedaling when off

No. These motors have very little pedaling resistance. The perceived resistance is usually due to an eBikes extra weight. To confirm, remove the chain from the front chainring and spin the cranks. I’m guessing you’ll experience very little resistance. If you notice significant resistance...

    eMTB Options For 2024

I highly recommend you cut those zip ties flush. If you don’t, the cut ends are sharp as knives. Trust someone who’s learned the hard way! These flush cutters do the trick. A sharp razor blade works too...

Short E-Bike Warranties: Are They A Problem?

My bike frame’s lifetime warranty gives me added confidence in their engineering and manufacturing capabilities. The other components including the motor and battery are warranted for 2 years. For an additional cost, many lbs’s offer extended warranties and service plans for the bikes they sell.

Didn't think I could improve on my 700, but.....

Wouldn’t it be better to mount it on the left side? That way you could reach the buttons with your hand still on the grip.
